View Full Version : Seperating exhaust from the header tank ..

From collector I mean not header .
So . I've got my stain tunes off . But need the rest of exhaust off .
Any tips ? .
The holding clip is off so it's just tightness now holding it on at the bottom where it connects to the collector wotsits
Do I need to prise the flanges a bit .. ? . Heat ? Butter? Vaseline ? .

Probably ease the flanges open a bit, wd40 in the joints, and wallop the collector with a rubber mallet or shield with a piece of wood whilst tapping the collector with a hammer
depending on what gauge of metal its made of
I'd say soak it in your spray lube of choice and wiggle back and forth. Eventually it should free up.

Ooh, tight flanges and easing 'em open !
Now where was I, oh yes, if you can try and get a bit of heat on 'em too.

I had same problem when I took them off the Silver one mate. I eased open the flanges and applied heat, then got physical wiggling the link pipe hard to get it off. This destroys the gasket as that is what is causing it to stick and you'll need a new one.

It's graphite and quite fragile, when you clamped up it gets crushed and kind of fuses onto both parts. Makes a bloody good seal, but a bitch to get the parts apart. Mine was fubar after removing the link pipe and took a while with an old screwdriver to scrape all the bits off.
At least a new one is only a fiver.
