Should replace sprockets at same time definitely. When I do mine I'm going to go one tooth down on front sprocket for acceleration.

Ok cheers for the speedy reply mate so if I follow on and go a tooth down will this affect speedo and what chain you going for please

I dont believe it affects the speedo, as it's seperate from how the SV measures its speed. Think it measures rotations of the front wheel or something?

I've read Tsubaki chain and Renthal sprockets is a good combo. But I'm someone wiser will come along, I'm curious to hear some opinions myself!

Little bit of reading here: http://www.2wheeltuesday.com/2009/10/sv650-project-bike-upgraded-drivetrain-with-new-renthal-sprocket-and-tsubaki-chain/

Which model of SV do you have? My pointy measures speed with a spinning magnetic field on the wheel, so was not affected by a sprocket change.

When I changed my chain, I used a DID chain and sprocket set from a e-Bay, the whole lot cost about £150 at the time, but I did go for the best I could afford.

Top tip though, a chain oiler maintains your chain and allows for greater distances between changes. I use a Tutoro Auto (http://www.tutorochainoiler.com/) which is a simple and and elegant design, but other types are available.

I've gone for a 520 - 15/46 sprockets with a renthal rr4 chain. Not to hard to fit but need a tool

Cost with tool in total was about £220

Give it a good clean, if its just surface rust and on the plates. Then lube the chain

small patch of rust... hahahaaaaaaa, you should see mine after standing out all winter. its the same every year, ooohhh look a rusty chain think i'll get the chain lube out, gone in a few weeks.

get some brown sauce or coca cola on it or even better go to halfords and get some crust. i picked up some 90% phosphoric acid (stuff they put in cola) and use that on any rust... by by rust.

if your chain has serious tight spots or stiff links then yes renew the chain otherwise your wasting your money.
