Surprised to not see a thread here already but his death was announced on his Twitter account in the most appropriate way I've ever seen.

"AT LAST SIR TERRY, WE MUST WALK TOGETHER"

The reference for anyone unfamiliar with his work is there was one character in his books who used to be printed in all caps... Death.

Very cool and very sad at the same time.

We seem to be losing a lot of awesome people in recent months.

The story on the BBC suggests completely natural and he didn't have to initiate his own plan that he'd had for when he'd had enough. He'd been suffering from Alzheimer's and was campaigning for assisted suicide and such.

I'll miss the discworld.

I'll admit that I shed a tear at the news. His books have been a huge part of my life. Met the guy once years ago, a gentleman.

Loved the Twitter feed. Very appropriate.

RIP Mr. P.

.......... but without the quotation marks ;)

Fantastic series of books/characters and a thoroughly decent fella, too, by all accounts.

LPH, thats good to know, it might sound harsh but I think for him personally its a good thing. There must have been nothing worse that having his illness and gradually slipping away.

Sleep well Sir.

Gutted to hear the news, just looking at my full shelf of his books, almost all the discworld ones up there. I am however also glad he went the way he did, sounds peaceful anyway.

I also liked the announcement on twitter, thought of the Death character in the books and had a little chuckle.

very sad news indeed to hear, I can't say I've ever read his books that I can remember, but I do remember seeing a tv documentary he did and he really did inspire me in many ways.

Glad someone else noticed - even the paper got it wrong. Or missed the point.

One of my favourite authors.

One of mine too. His stuff carried me through a lot of dark periods in my life.
