I wouldnt do it either.

If you want more output, run osram nightbreaker bulbs with an Eastern beaver relay kit. Made the output on my SV loads better!

Not all H4s are created equal. as above, a quality set of bulbs from Philips or Osram help, as does keeping the lenses clean.

Heres a link if you're interested mate.

Obviously the 'dual H4 relay kit' is the one for the faired SV, and single for the naked.

I've been running nightbreakers for a couple of years without a relay kit, they work fine.

Oh yeah they do work fine

But if you want the best out of them a relay kit is the only way. The SV wiring isnt that good IMO.

I have got some pictures somewhere of the difference. I'll see if i can find em

Not the best pictures sorry people, just a couple whilst i was doing the job.

As Jambo says, you dont need one and upgraded bulbs on their own is an improvement. But the relay kit gives the bulbs the power they need to run at their optimum output. The standard SV wiring isnt good enough to get the best out of them.

Edit: just so you know. I did spend a week tidying the garage since then n its not that bad anymore! Haha.

that eastern beaver kit is just fancy relays that you can do just the same with normal or mini relays. yes it is a nice piece of kit but its still relays FFS.

You could do it yourself but id rather buy something i trust to be put together well with good quality parts.

I dont see what the problem is?

Only tryna help the guy :/

read http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=215702 if you still dont understand then get someone who does to do it.

there is a cheaper way to get a little more light output, go round all the connectors associated with the lighting circuit with electrical contact cleaner/grease (''corrosion block'' liquid is a good one. its made by the same people who make ACF-50 but its slightly thicker) inc the handlebar switchgear.

I seem to remember the standard bulbs on the curvy are crap because they were fitted with 45 watt lamps!, or have I just made that up?

To some extent the reflector design just isn't that great which means that bulbs and relaid are just getting the most out of the design rather than fixing all the issues. Still worth doing

Nope. You havent made that up. They are 45w from the factory.

However it is safe to run 55w
