Further to the thread about bike tunes, can anyone recommend some decent speakers, the flat ones you Velcro to your helmet lining near your ears.

I can't get on with ear plugs but when I had an Autocom I found their speakers ok. The ones on Ebay are so cheap they must be rubbish.

+1 - I've got a Scala G9 headset which is great but I'm well on the way towards being deaf so a better pair of speakers would be ace...

I shall be keeping an eye on this one.

For the time being I've gone with a decent set of noise-cancelling in-ear buds, which are good for sound but a bit of a faff.

If you really want quality, you'll need to replace the speakers on any headset of this nature, with something semi decent, probably embedded into the padding of your lid.

I'm considering doing exactly that with the cheapy set i have, as i've permanently installed it into my Caberg Duke.

The quality isnt that bad, tbh. It's listenable, bearing in mind the amount of external noise you get too. I can listen to music comfortably up to about 80mph. Beyond that, it gets a bit squiffy.

The best drivers would be from a slimline set of headphones that you could install. Bearing in mind most of these are around 2", you're still going to compromise audio quality to a degree.

You could also extend the speaker connections out and run good quality earbuds as well. That's a further option.

Get a ok set of headphones and mod then for the bike.
Surprisingly my cheap ebay bluetooth on the kbc sounds very good.
Better than the oe lazer Monaco bluetooth!
(last week the bald geza disadsembled some headphones, so it will give you a clue.
You can get customer fit ear plugs with imbedded drivers.
Some on heat I believe went that route.

I bought the twin pack of these:

Can skip, fast forward, rewind and pause. As well as being able to answer your phone. Good sound quality as well.

No I cannot. I got sick of looking and went down the custom fitted ear plugs with good quality phones attached. They are surprisingly comfortable for day long wear. Being a standard headphone jack they plug into my scala rider, phone and mp3 player.

I've got a Sena SMH10. Brilliant bit of kit, works well with my phone & audible at all speeds. Functions are easy to use and battery life is also good.

those look pretty much exactly the same as the ones I use, but mine are just a pair of those things that come with the hook on to go over your ears, but mine were a hell of a lot cheaper! and the quality isn't too bad either.

I use these on my own bike. Not cheap but plug into a 3.5mm jack so perfect for phone/intercom/Ipod?

I definitely don't want in ear ones. I've already custom ear plugs.

The Cardo G9x does 2 size of speakers if you have space for bigger sounds they plug in using a 3.5mm jack.

a good quality over ear headphones will do the trick bar one thing, amplification. dont expect your pizzy ipod to deliver enough juice to power decent headphones at a decent level especially when there is background noise so i would recommend an inline pocket headphone amp like a Fiio for instance. these headphone amps can actually make a mid priced headphone sound better as the headphone is being driven properly.

Since it's been resurrected ..........

I got some JVC headphones for a bit over a tenner, the speakers were on a backing plate which I cut down to fit the recess in my Neotec, worked well.

When in Maplins recently I noticed they do speaker drivers of that sort of size, 30-40mm calibre. I'd have a good look at those if doing another helmet.

The Zumo 550 I use has always been criticised for feeble amplification. I got a small 12V stereo amp off ebay for a fiver and fitted it in a small plastic box, 3.5mm from the Zumo to the in, then whatever socket arrangement you want on the out (I use a Neutrik XLR, very robust). When tested stationary the amp is a little noisy (surprise, expect better for a fiver!) but once the foam earplugs are in and the bike is running it sounds fine.

Just a few thoughts.

Dunno if this helps but I use my SMH5 Bluetooth headset as music speakers. It's not played at any high volume but I can hear quite well even through earplugs.

Why ear plugs. Keeps the background engine/wind/road noise down but I can still hear anything from the phone/ipod/sat-nag.

I still get a funny whining noise when I am two up but that seems to go away...
