Hey guys,
Bikes been in the garden for a while now due to issues and me not having the time to fix it up- I came over to it the other day with a decent amount of oil right beneath the filter- long story short I was leaning the bike back and forth (to loosen a lost battery terminal) and it started ****ing what I can only see was water and oil? It wasnt the radiator oil as that has the greenish de icer--
Looked at the filter and it seemed to be damp- is this a common issue? Im worried maybe the seal around the filter has deteriorated- but honestly I dont want to mess around with anything Until I get an opinion.
Cheers dudes

Can you explain a bit better, I cant really understand what you mean!?.
Water and oil peeing out of the oil filter?.
Radiator oil has the greenish de icer! coolant?.
If it's been sitting in the garden the water could just be rain that's collected and then run off when you started moving the bike. It's possible that oil is leaking from the filter, or maybe from somewhere else.
I'd check the oil, coolant and brake fluid levels first of all then get the engine clean and dry so you can see what's happening and detect any possible leaks.
If the filter is old and needs replacing anyway then crack on and do it.

Hey Bud- thankyou!
Yeah all levels look okay apart from the oil is a tad low but nothing drastic-
I dont think its all water as rubbing it between my fingers definately left a layer of residue-
Im waiting on a new filter I bought online a few days ago- but what is the average life expectancy for a filter? Its been in since purchase in august.
Cheers!!
I've never known this on a bike but I had an oil filter on my car have a micro pin hole it which was leaking due to corrosion, mainly salt from winter roads that had got into a bit of a dirt trap!!!

I've heard of this before. One of my colleagues destroyed the engine in his ar by never getting the oil changed, the filter corroded internally until it holed and all the engine lost its oil and seized
Mavicap,it was on my x Trail last year always serviced as per the manual, the filter tends to be very close to the block in one place and this is where the cr@p builds, up only drips.I blamed the sons car at first ,as 3 cars on the drive being jiggled about.Had a Metro years ago had a similar thing above the rear wheel arches, real cra@p trap that rotted bodywork like acid!!!

yep, agreed. The sv's filter is in the right place to get hit by a stone and pierce it.

it was an extreme case, from a mechanical numpty. The oil had got so acidic by not being changed, so no wonder it ate throughthe filter.
Just chagne the filter, to rule this out as a cause.

This.
Standard procedure for locating leaks. Clean thoroughly, then run the engine while watching to see where the leak is.
