View Full Version : Torque Wrenches again
since my last one got stolen so i'm in the market for a new one. i have narrowed it down to 2 options. 1st being halfords 3/8'' drive one (i had one of these before and it was fairly good but not that great at low torque settings) as i can just nip into halfords and pick it up. 2nd option is a digital Sealey 3/8'' STW308 this one has a massive range of 8-85nm which sounds perfect. having never used a digital before i was wondering what they are like to use.

Not one you've narrowed down, but bought this one on offer at Demon Tweeks the other day - http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/tools-workshop/ratchets-sets/sealey-torque-wrench-micrometer-style-3-8-inch-sq-drive-7-112nm-5-83lb-ft-stw1011
Sealey 3/8 drive 7-112nm range for £22.50. It seems pretty good so far, comes with a calibration certificate
ended up getting a Norbar tti50. i dont use one that often.

I use this
http://toolstoday.co.uk/teng-tqwr-20-110nm-3-8-dr-3892ag-e3
Does for most things on the bike
i looked at that one as i liked the dial on the top but it only goes down to 20nm and since i only use a torque wrench on things like disc bolts it wont work.
Hmm that Sealey one from Demon Tweaks looks jolly decent for the price. I need a torque wrench as well as I cant keep travelling 30 miles just to use my brothers every time...

Forgot to mention, price is ex. VAT . Came to £35.70 including postage, which still isn't too bad.

... if anyone else is looking at it, it's cheaper on Amazon...

I will say I don't think I will go past teng torque wrenches as my 1/2" been Superb
They do one that goes down to 5nm and do a tiny 1/4" drive unit
yup but i use 3/8'' most of the time well up till about 22mm socket after that its 1/2''.
i only really need it for discs and a few other bitz'n'pizez as i dont really like using them and especially so on old nuts/bolts.

I bought a STW300 some years ago. Didn’t find the digital feature an advantage and went back to a normal 'click' one.
Think its at the back of a drawer somewhere now.
the Norbar tti50 arrived this morning and i must say its rather nice, handle is a bit small (think this was done on purpose so you always pull at the right place). it has a lovely nice click to it, the ratchet is a 72 tooth so nice small increments, main dial is a bit small but i love the little 0-9 counter which makes it less guesswork :-)
