Hello all I have an issue but its on my quad bike. If I put it in gear I have to rev the nuts out of it to get it to move. Also engine shut off I put her in any gear clutch in and it clunks like mad when moving. Any ideas please where to start thanks all for your help

That isn't making a lot of sense to me to be honest, can you expand it a bit please?

Ok when I start the engine and select first. I have to rev it big time to get it in motion...when I do move I hear a clunking from engine...

When the engine is off I select first gear and pull the clutch to move the bike and i he's the clunking again its a constant tap tap tap. Hope this is better lol

If you rev it normally and let the clutch out gently, what happens, it stalls?

Sounds like busted clutch - if it's making noise with engine off, in gear, clutch in, also... this could mean that the engine is still partly engaged, so clutch not doing its job.

When you rev it hard with engine on, 1st gear, and clutch in, does it feel like the bike wants to move (like the clutch is partly engaged)?

Does it not already have oil in the engine?

Haha I drained the oil to take clutch cover off

When trying to pull away in first, it's like gearbox is seized unless you rev the nuts off it and then it will slowly move, or unless you select another gear then there is no clunking till I hit 4th gear then its a constant clunking

Jack the back of the quad up so the wheels are off the ground (securely).

With the engine off spin the back wheels by hand (turn both together and then one at a time so the diff spins) and make sure everything is smooth and quiet. If not problem is diff or chain (final) drive related.

Now put it in gear and rock the back wheels back and forth (again you will need to push on both unless it has a locked diff). You should just hear a single "clonk" each way as you take the slack out of the transmission. Do this in each gear. Is there any difference in the "clonk" between each gear?

If everything still sounds "normal" then try pulling the clutch in with it in gear and rock the rear wheels again (you'll need someone to help you here unless you happen to have three long arms....) . Most clutches have some drag in them so you may need to push the rear wheels quite hard to overcome it, but what you are listening for is a smooth slip rather than a horrible mechanical sound. If you have had the clutch cover off and checked the clutch you probably already know it's OK.

If everything is still OK then start the engine and gently run it through the gears with the engine as near to tick over as you can get away with so you can still hear things. You can apply a little back brake at times to induce a little load but don't overdo it and cook it.

If the knocking sound is only in certain gears then this tends to suggest you have a problem inside the gearbox.
