View Full Version : Any ideas???
whilst riding ive noticed a clicking noise coming from the bike, ive tensioned the chain correctly and aligned the wheel correctly, ive removed the fairing and the front sprocket cover and put the bike on a paddock stand, when in gear the chain seems to jump now and again...why does this do this??? the chain and sprockets look to be in good condition. im worried it may come off when riding...any help appreciated thanks in advance..

Don't forget your chain will be tensioned differently with the suspension loaded and you on it. Running the bike on a paddock stand will not give you a good idea.

Last time I had a similar noise I found the front sprocket was hooked.
you may have a tight link in the chain.
cheers for the input guys...u may have a point with the tight link..i will give it a good lube but I do have a scotoiler....any ideas on best chain lube?
Scotoiler own label oil in your scotoiler.
get some paraffin and a 2'' paint brush. cut the bristles of the 2'' brush in half so you have stiff bristles. get a clean glass jar (mayonnaise are ideal) and pour some paraffin into the jar. put a kitty litter tray under the chain area then clean chain with the paraffin and brush. when cleaning the chain pay special attention to any tight links by wiggling the link while its doused in paraffin. once the chain is clean pour the paraffin that is in the litter tray back into the jar then put the lid on the jar. with luck you will clean the chain enough to free the tight link, if not then get a new chain or put up with the noise.
the paraffin will settle out in the jar for future reuse. a 4ltr pack of paraffin will last you years and years doing it that way.
ok i will give it a try thanks

Just thinking laterally, you haven't got a big screw or similar in the back tyre have you...?
no ive checked the tyres as well,,,think I will just treat myself to new chain n sprockets
As fen Tiger mentioned, mine also made a knocking sound and it was hooked front sprocket not releasing the chain properly.
