Some of you may be aware of The Longest Day Down Challenge (Performance Bikes magazine have been involved in taking part, organising and covering the event every year)....

www.thelongestdaydownchallenge.co.uk

We started in 2013 and over 50 riders have taken part so far, raising over £35,000 for Cancer Research UK

Riders attempt to ride the 900 odd miles from John o'Groats to Lands End, on a route that we set and that has no motorways, between sunrise on the 21st of June and sunrise on the 22nd of June - giving them just over 24hrs to get from one end of the country to the other and they seek sponsorship from friends and family to raise money for cancer Reseacrh UK.

In previous years the added wrinkle has been that the bike they use has to cost no more £300 to buy and prepare.

This year we've also decided to let a limited number of riders enter on their own "normal" bike.

To make it a genuine challenge for those using their own bike, as you’ll not be riding with one finger covering the clutch lever listening for the first knocking noise of doom from your shonky bike, we’ll be giving you a little something extra in the tradition of The Longest Day Down Challenge to keep you on your toes on the ride and level the playing field….

In previous years those who didn't take part on a £300 bike, normally because their challenge bike expired on their final test ride, have been penalised by dint of having to carry an inflatable pillion passenger, so we are quite inventive and devious.

It costs £300 to enter the challenge; in exchange for this you get accomodation and dinner at John o'Groats the night before, LDD branded clothing, support vehicles on the ride, check points with refreshment for bike and rider along the way, reception and accomodation at Lands End the day after.

If anyone is interested in taking part on an SV, or any other bike you own, you can email info@thelongestdaydownchallenge.co.uk
