Floor space

I've had a quick look here and on google, but can't find what in after.

I'm looking for a bike but it has to go in the garage - combination of city centre and paranoid girlfriend.

What size floor space is needed to house an SV? I'm thinking especially the extra width taken up when leaning on its side stand. Or is it feasible to put it up on an abba stand every day?

ABBA stand or like ive got, which is one of those wheel chocks.

The benefit of the wheel chock is that is where my bike stops, with the ABBA stand, you need to allow another 6 to 8 inches for forward travel on the stand.

Bikes very stable in the chock, and i just drive the bike onto it, no faffing about with the stand.

i keep the ABBA for maintenance.

You can park it upright on one of these (http://www.bikertidy.com/acatalog/Universal_Bike_Stand.html) style stands (there are other brands which bolt to the floor to stop them moving) every night which is easier than putting it on an ABBA stand every night, or you could just stick it on a bog standard read paddock stand and roll it in and out if space is an issue. If you want to be able to get on/off the bike in the garage you need at least 4x8ft but that is tight, if you want to roll it into the garage you could just about get away with 3"6x8ft, but that's tight. This is based on measuring the space required for my pointy SV650S on its side stand out the front. Don't know if wider bars on the naked would make any difference.

Block of wood under the side stand works a treat. Add more wood until you get to the point you are worried about it falling over. A couple of inches makes a lot of difference (or so the wife says)

From the tip of my wheel chock, and allowing a bit behind my bike its 7.5ft and 3ft wide allowing a bit of walking space around the bike

Thanks maviczap - when you say wheel chock - do you mean the sort of thing Nutsinatin linked to? Can you post a photo / link please?

Yep, that's what I'm referring to.

I've got one similar to the link he posted. Buy one you can bolt to the floor if possible & with the facility to lock your bike to if you're worried about security.

I get mine into the hallway every night (Wheel it in) so that involves getting through a front door, you would be surprised how little room you actually need.
