Has anyone used throttle cables from another Suzuki?

My naked 99 has standard bars(I think)chrome metal have tried with risers but still don't like the position.
Have got Renthal low to go on but brake hose & throttle cables are to short.

No probs have got a longer brake hose from Venhill(half reasonable price) but cables are soooh expensive!

I have found GSXR 1000 '03 look like they are identical but are about 75-80mm longer, can get at a half reasonable price on fleabay or Wemoto

Any help appreciated

I've fitted Fatbars to my (faired) curvy and the standard throttle cables were long enough!

Standard should fit if you route them from switches to framehttp://i829.photobucket.com/albums/zz211/Blueperson_photos/20140724_164624.jpg instead of round the fork :-)

Did a "dry run" with everything on but def won't fit,to tight even if I cut the renthals width down!

Blueperson you are a star !!

I think you might have saved me a few quid(that I can now spend on a flyscreen or seat re-trim!)

I can see you've routed the throttle cables & the wiring(?) behind the forks, can't quite see if your clutch & choke cables are original position though, Did you change them as well?

Maybe could have gone for medium renthals now,(bugger) will give a try at the weekend & see

Just noticed the forks seem to have about 15mm sticking up from the yoke, aren't they meant to be level

normal position is level with the yoke, but dropping the forks through the yokes will quicken the steering to some degree. But not too much as it can cause problems.

If you're not happy go back to level, and try 5mm at a time until you get to where they are now.

All cables are standard faired curvy. Clutch in front of forkleg and the rest from the left bar behind. The forks are dropped as I'm using a 70 section section front tyre instead of the standard 60 and the 6mm drop evens out the geometry to stop it feeling like a chopper :-)

Great thanks for that,it does seem to drop into corners quite nicely but not in a nervous way.

Has good Bridgestones fitted which I've all ways found are nice smooth steering response.

I'll try back to standard before I change the bars over so I'll know whats what

Makes sense, gives me loads to muck about with now!

I need the bars closer to me as well as higher hence the reason behind renthals(more sweep).Have got risers on with the standard bars at moment but everything is very tight as mentioned & still to much "lean" for my knackered bits!!

almost all suzuki bikes with a naked type front brake integrated rez has the same throttle housing with integrated throttle cable. just choose which lengths suit most. sounds like you have hit the nail on the head with the giixer 1k though.

Cheers for confirming that, must have been luck as it was the first one I looked at with same looking ends!

I think I'll try the cheap re-route option first & see how I get on.

Will try & post photos when done

I had custom throttle cables made at my local garage. Price for parts and labour was very reasonable, but to be honest when it comes to changing them in the future, I think that I could do it myself. Teflon lined outer cable, stainless steel wire and some steel nipple ends are not that expensive. All you would need with that is a small braising torch and some brass rod, all of which can be picked up from B&Q quite cheaply. The other option is use simple standard solder and a good hot iron, it requires more care to get the softer solder into place, but it is still a fairly simple job. Obviously this option is not for everyone, but if you spend time building a special, you don't mind investing in the tools to repeat the job on the next special.

Jayne, you also need a bird caging tool. using the caging tool you can solder the ends on using a plumbers torch and waxed string or clay to keep the solder form flowing down the cable.

Have fitted my new bars at last!

They are Renthal low superbike bars with new grips & bar ends.

Fitted on to the standard top yoke & risers. New longer brake hose (by Venhill),re-routed wiring, choke cable & throttle cables behind the forks.
Clutch cable in front(original routing)but is still a tad tight but has got some play on lock.

Not sure of the clutch cable is original as I can,t see the Suzuki markings but the throttle cables were original? Suzuki.

Anyway all is now a much more "user friendly" riding position for me,also added a fly screen whilst I was fiddling about \\:D/
Will post pictures on the screen & seat bag later
