Would you change these tyres now?

MOT guy put them as an advisory as they won't last till next year. (I did 3000 miles between mots last year.)

They're Mitchelin Road Pilot 2's, and seem to have a fair bit of tread left. But I've never had to buy new tyres so really don't know.

This is the front

And this is the rear

Thoughts?

Thanks

If they feel alright and are in good condition I wouldn't worry, I change at about 2mm of tread left, but might go lower if it's dry (until the centre starts to go bald). If they start to feel off in the wet it's time to change. From what I can see in the pictures they look alright for dry riding for a bit longer, but if you're worried change.

If you like the tyres, I would replace the rear soonish and run the front for a good while yet. If however you want to try something new I'd do as Nutsinatin says and run it til its bald :) Then replace both.

Front is fine.
Rears getting low in the middle. But not on the twi's once you get a little past that .
So if you thinking of sticking with the same again get a new rear.

They look fine for normal riding. If you indulge in "spirited" stuff then a new set of boots always makes the bike feel better.

Looking at the front. They seam to be a ridding to a nice relaxing pace. So your safe until the rears gone to 2mm if you are doing rainy day and 1mm if you don't.
Save the planet etc. (and your pennies).

From what I can see, the front looks in fairly good nick, the rear is getting low in the centre.

When you're getting down to the wear markers the profile of the tyre has long since had it, so I'd start looking at options. You're not illegal but you're riding on a tyre that will make the bike feel a bit odd tipping in.

I say this as someone with an utterly square rear tyre I haven't bothered changing...

From Michelin:

Wear bar Indicators

Michelin motorcycle tires have wear indicators that aid in determining the remaining usable life of tire. Locate the running Michelin Man on the sidewall of the tire to find the wear bar indicators across the tread pattern. Smooth sections appear in the tread grooves, across the tread, when the remaining tread depth is only .8mm (1/32 inch). The minimum legal tread depth, in some states, is more than the federally mandated 1/32" (0.8mm). Please consult your state's Department of Transportation regarding tread depth minimums for motorcycle tires.

I run mine down to the wear bars.

personally i would change them both out but i dont like PR2's

if you like the feel of the tyre then get a new rear now. once the rear or front is done then both will need changed.

Thanks.

I do like these tyres. Although I have nothing to compare them to, so it's more a case of I don't dislike them!

Can I change the rear for a PR4, and run the front as a PR2 for a bit longer? Or would I have to change both to the news ones?

Just ride on the side more ;-)

... and yes, you can. Some people say don't mix, but front 2s and rear 4s are fine as you probably won't get to the limit of the front tyre by the time you need to change the rear.

yes you can if you like. at the moment i run a PR4 rear and a PR3 front, most folk will say no dont but its entirely up to the individual to make their own decision.

You can try it but you'll probably want one of those nice PR4s for the front then! If I was riding it I would have no qualms about mixing them.

:twisted:If you mix them your eyes will melt :^oand your regulator will fry.:reaper:
I read it some place lol:smt046
ps
My Bike has a Bias Belt front and a Radial rear.
And that how it came out the factory!!

I just meant there's nothing wrong with running a PR2 front and a PR4 rear, but when you put a lovely new PR4 with a quick smooth turn in on the rear, and run a part worn PR2 on the front you'll be wishing you had a lovely new PR4 front. Don't need to buy a new front tyre it was just a joke! As I've said previously if it was my bike I would have no problem running a mixed pair of tires. Unless I get a puncture I normally replace in pairs as I wear both tyres pretty evenly (wear the edges of the front out and the centre of the rear about 8000-10000 miles for PR3s). I can't wait to get back to the PR4s once I wear these BT-21s out that came with the bike.

I think ntec was having a laugh about the whole mixing tyres thing. He genuinely has a bias front and radial rear as new from factory on his tiger 800

You know me ;)
I think the smiles gave me away.
The thing is that triumph list an alternative fitment of 110/80-19.(oe 100 /90 -19.
And there's a good choice of radials in that size. Even the scorpions a radial in that size!
Still goes round corners just feels a bit dead. But it's a bit of an unfair comparison from the M5 shod 675 Daytona.
