Hey guys, thanks for letting me join and thanks in advance for your help.

A friend called me last night and said she was looking at a gixxer and wanted to know what I thought. She sent me a pic and I advised her that it was an SV650.

My question for the forum. Is there anything I should look for ? Any issues with this bike ?

It's actually from research an SV650S 2003

Its a Pointy and very ugly

Service history is the most important thing, regular oil changes and kept at the max. Low oil levels can lead to knackered bottom ends.

Corrosion is the SV's weak spot.

There isn't a lot to go wrong with an SV, so long as its looked after

The bike is 12 / 13 years old and only has 3K miles on it. Checking the fuel tank for rust and all the usual things but just wondered if there were any issues. Sounds like it's a great bike. I have owned two Hayabusa's and a KZ650 back in 1978. The early Busa's had some issues like second gear. I was just looking for known problems for her.

Just lack of use I'd say.

SV engines & gearboxes are robust enough with normal use, and regular oil changes

Budget suspension is the achilles heel

That age and such low mileage is pretty unusual so just be extra wary it isn't a ringer. Technically it should still be on it's original rubber (or maybe a new set somewhere in the middle due to age) so have a good look at the rims to see if it looks as if it's had multiple tyre changes, look for gravel rash or any other sign of it being an ex racer (drilled sump plus, banged up lock stops, non standard panel fasteners/bolts and stuff like that) and hopefully of course some kind of ownership history with a believable reason for the low mileage.

As others have said standard well looked after examples are pretty bullet proof.

We opted not to buy guys. The fuel tank wouldn't open, the battery was completely dead, tool bag missing ( could look at the battery ) , could not find any oil in the engine if there was any. Front tire looked decent, but the rear was to the cord [-( , dropped on both sides, both turn signals missing, minor scratches on fairing and tank. Turned out to be a 2001 according to the frame sticker and had been stored in the yard for over a year, :nomore:
