Hey guys, i'm new here and i would like to pick some brains.

I have recently purchased a 2007 (sk6) SV650s. When i bought it it all seemed all fine and dandy but i did notice something with the indicators when they where flashing they seemed to flicker a little, all i know is the guy i bought it from had fitted aftermarket LED indicators. When i went to see it on the day they were working but were flickering as said above, got the bike home then the next day started her up checked everything and the indicators wouldn't work at all. The display was dim and constant green not flashing as you would expect. Here is a quick video i took to explain the green constant light. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oL7lbi9iWlE

When i set the alarm (data tool s4) the indicators flash but when using the switch or the hazard switch the above happens. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers guys
Ryan

Your video is set to private

My guess without seeing it, is that you need an LED flasher relay?

Sorry about that the video is now open. I don't believe its the relay as when i viewed the bike the indicators where flashing at the normal flash rate not rapid.

What type of relay is fitted? Replacement for the old unit or the piggy back one? I had similar issues with a cheap piggyback one and rectified it with a proper replacement.

I had a similar problem on mine the other day, one of the connectors had come adrift, so the indicators were flashing rapidly.

Once I'd pushed the connector back in place & switched the ignition off and back on the flash rate returned to normal.

Mines got individual resistors on each indicator

gt900uk i'm not entirely sure what relay is in it but i have some photos ill put up now and hopefully you will be able to identify it.

maviczap ill pulled all the connectors out and put them back in and still doing it, i'm not sure if there are resistors on it or not though.. as i mentioned all i know is that there are aftermarket led indicators on it. sorry to be vague but i'm new to this.

Photos of relay.

Pics of the idicators?

Are they cheap far east ones or better quality ones?

could still be a duff relay or a duff indicator, but difficult to diagnose over the Internet.

I don't believe it's a dodgy indicator because when i set the alarm all 4 indicators flash 3 or 4 times to say the alarm is set.. This is what is confusing me..

Cheers guys

It's not the piggy back style so a different issue than I had. I would be tempted to get a new relay and try that though.

LED's need ballast to work correctly don't they!?

P.s I don't claim to know any thing about electrics hahaha.

I think you need either ballasts or the relay. I've ordered a new relay to see if that solves the problem. If not then I'll have to order some new indicators.. But I don't see what's wrong with them if they work when I set the alarm...

Oh right I remember seeing some where that a resistor was needed for led's, I am interested to see what the problem is, its all ways good to learn new stuff.

They look like they have ballasts or resistors inline, but a proper led relay should resolve any issues.

I'm no electrical whizz, so if its not the relay, then it might be one duff indicator.

I'd also look for any chaffing of the wiring loom

Failing that could it be the alarm?

If it's not the relay then it's off to the garage if so I will ask them what was the problem and I'll let you guys know. I don't think it would be a indicator because as said all four flash when I set the alarm.

ok great, electrics is some thing I have always struggled with, if you get a mechanical problem in the future I should be able to offer a bit more input .

Ryan Butland

Yeah I'm exactly the same something mechanical I'm alright.. Electrics and I'm clueless.

are the indicators flashing as normal or are they buzzing like the green indicator on the clocks?

Guys! Problem fixed my new relay come today just fitted it and everything is working as it should! Thank God! Cheers for the help guys! Much appreciated!

The reason they flash fine when alarm is set is because the alarm sends power to the 4 times to light them, they dont flash through the relay.

Glad its sorted

My god, I got an electrical query right! :p

Time to wire up the national grid

Glad it was a simple fix
