My phone is old and past it. So went to arrange a new contract yesterday.
Carphone warehouse had a problem with their systems whenever they tried to enter my details with EE. So back again today, where I failed a credit check.
Gone home and checked my experian record where I score 992 and described as excellent.
there are no searches that I would not expect. All my accounts are recorded as satisfactory.
I have checked my bank accounts and they are all healthy.
So why the hell should I be declined a phone contract.
Oh. What I went for was a bit funny. it shows a 20gb data but says 3g, carphone warehouse say cannot be 3g as ee is 4g and wouldn't think of offering that as a 3g proposition. So unless the decline is due to the offer no longer being available??

So the same has just happened at the EE shop, they said it may be your bank security
Been into the local branch, no not them, my accounts are healthy, never used overdraft facility, never had a payment request declined. Wierd, why don't EE want me?

Wierd, why don't EE want me?They have probably been reading your grumpy grumblings on here and don't fancy having you shout down the phone at them. :p

Which you will definitely have to do at some point.

Not had someone use your address for a dodgy loan Tim?
we had loads of debt recovery firms chasing a lady, who'd used our address and phone number to get a loan.
hasn't stopped me getting new credit cards or phones, but it might be something like that.
No CCJ's on your addresses.

Thanks Mike
A quick google suggests others with excellent credit have fallen foul of them. FFS my daughter who I keep having to bail out can get a contract with them. But not me.
I just paid for a multi agency credit check which shows all the failed attempts to check me yesterday at carphone warehouse (system kept stopping mid check) and those of today. Yet my record shows everything ok. So damn annoying. If there was something I could get it corrected. But there is nothing there.

Yep, I'd heard of this before, something on the Martin Lewis Tv show mentioned about not having a good credit was a good thing in some circumstances!
sounds to me like they dont want people with good credit ratings as they know that these people will pay their bills so cant charge them other fees for late payments etc.etc.
If you get good EE coverage take a look at the new BTMobile offerings. If you have BT broadband etc you can get mobile for about £5 month. However if you want latest fancy phones and gig of data tehn probably not for you.

So went to o2
Got the same phone and data etc, for £15/month (Thanks to a discount through work) cheaper than EE wanted.
HTC M9, 20GB data, unlimited calls and something called texts whatever they are.
OK 4G coverage isn't as good as EE. But I get a good 4g signal around home area and the local work office.
EEs loss is my/O2s gain. PAC code entered and waiting for the number transfer to happen.
Would be interesting to find out why EE declined me though. O2 credit check was as expected, clean.

BT do broadband? They declined to install adsl to my home as they estimated a dial up modem would be quicker down the aluminium wires they use round here. Or that could be because of the loss of revenue from the isdn2 service I had.
Now if only I could get fibre to the home.

EE got terrible customer service ratings in Which? recently. Their claimed 4G coverage really doesn't seem to correspond with the coverage I actually get. And you no longer get 2 for 1 cinema and pizza, so I don't think you're missing much.
20Gig data !!!
I just get over 1 gig out of my allowed 2GB!!
No choice but EE round hear as the other networks don't work...
I think just the sim next for me .
The Z1 still does a good job .(once I get the screen replaced).
EE's 4g data plans are extortionate

Maybe . But it's no use having a contract that you can't use if you don't have a signal !

I'm getting a bit cheesed off with a lot of the phone providers, so am looking at Giff Gaff. My missus has used it for about 2 years now, she gets better coverage than my O2 & it's a lot cheaper. The only downfall is that you dont get the newest phone.
4G package:- For only £15 get 500 UK minutes, unlimited UK texts and 3 GB Internet for one month.
I'm very tempted.
https://giffgaff.com/goodybags/15pound-goodybag-4g
giffgaff runs on the O2 network

True but don't go for a 4g plan.
Unless they stopped them you could still get 3g plans which were a bit more reasonable.
Or you can try using the apps some providers have for poor signal.
O2 and 3 Def have these and they work on WiFi so you can call and text out of your own allowance
Ok . Time we droped Sarah's tesco sim only as its hopeless at home .

Are you a member of Equifax / Experian or the like?
This prevented me opening accounts with nationwide until head office had cleared them as the Experian credit system stopped people (including me) in this instance opening accounts in my name -
A handy feature knowing your details are safe but irritating all the same.
I was refused by Nationwide when I was living in rented accommodation in Edinburgh. I was trying to open a joint account with my partner and was refused despite having a five figure sum in my personal Nationwide account.
It turned out the the property I was renting had a string of defaults and unpaid debts by at least five other people. I was refused on the basis of their record, not mine.

Interesting possibility Alex. I do have an Experian account. But it did not show any alerts etc. They rate me as excellent. I therefore find it strange that their system should stop me opening a credit account.
