Hi Everybody,
When checking my chain and sprockets the other day, I found out that the rear sprocket has play (side-to-side / axially). I will describe it referring to this diagram:
http://www.bikebandit.com/oem-parts/2004-suzuki-sv650-sv650k4/o/m147649#sch505600
The rear sprocket (19) moves together with the drum (14) relative to the wheel hub. There is about 3 mm of play. I have taken everything apart and checked every part and made sure everything was in its proper place as in the diagram. I noticed the hub spacer (2) sits loosely (lots of play) inside the hub between the two bearings, but I think that is intentional so that there is only load on the bearing during operation.
The curshions / shock absorbers that sit inside the wheel hub (18.) look worn, they formed themselves to the shape of the drum (14). I tried rotating the drum in different configurations relative to the hub to see if maybe it would seat better, but it made no difference.
Should I just replace these shock absorbers? Is this a regular wear part? Has anybody come across this? I torqued the axle nut to spec, 73 ft-lbs.
Thanks for any help!
2004 Suzuki SV650
Yoshimura slip-on
No other modifications as far as I can tell (bought it used)
I think chain and sprockets are still stock. 44T in the rear. I'll replace these but want to get this sorted out first.
