In the Tyre route planning software, using the "Import from Website" feature is not working, it gives an error .
"This file does not have a valid format, or does not contain any useful data"
Anyone else having this problem? Anyone managed to fix it?
yup, been like that for ages. there is no fix.
i have started using the inbuilt map (google maps) for TYRE and its just as easy. make sure you have the latest update and you can still zoom and load street view.

Cheers Bibs. What drives me nuts about the inbuilt map in tyre is you double click on any other mapping app it zooms in, do it in Tyre, it drops a pin, and it's like "arrrggghhh, I didn't want one there!!".
I've just been having a play with the Motogoloco planning app since I posted this and WOW! I was creating a route in Google Maps, importing it into Tyre, tweaking it and saving as an ITN file to the TomTom. Motogoloco does all this in one site. I think it's just replaced Tyre for 99% of my route planning!
i tend to be a bit more complex about my waypoints and i wont use motogoloco maps as you have to sign up. one more thing about the moto maps is when you place a waypoint it sometimes does not place it on a road so drives my spaznav nutzzz.
tyre just takes a bit of getting used to but it a lot more powerful when you do.
Started a thread on this a few weeks ago, James suggested using Motogoloco which is pretty good, I tend to create the routes using it then copy them into Tyre to check the waypoints, then copy them onto the TomTom.
It's a pain not being able to use gmaps any more though.

I've tried using other maps like Bing, none of them are working. In Motogoloco, I noticed that it only dropped a few waypoints wherever you drag your route (exactly like google maps and why I used tyre to add in more), and I like more waypoints too. I noticed in Motogoloco, that if you click where you want your waypoint, drag away from the route slightly, and drag back again, then let the mouse button go, it adds in another waypoint at that point, and unlike Tyre it automatically puts that waypoint in the correct place in the running order.

Tyre's got a beta version on Android.
Anyone used it yet???

tyre does that too but you need to set it up properly. another thing that tyre does that i find useful is section distance calculating which i use for my fuel stops. once i design my route and i like the way it is i then divide the total distance by 4 miles and expand the waypoints to the number required (you have to set the number of waypoints in the file tab).
i start my route by selecting the start point and the finish point then drag the line to the route i want to take, once i have done that i then look for fuel/snack stops and add them once i'm happy with my route i will expand the number of waypoints, this keep my spaznav on the right track. a word of caution.. when adding waypoints to MW/DC zoom right in so you make sure that you are on the right side of the carriageway or you end up with backtracking.
I find Tyre always puts waypoints in the wrong places wish there was a way to just auto add 40 waypoints.

there is...
go to Tools- Preferences - Files tab.. Max number of waypoints then increase to the max number you require then press ok.
once you have built your rough route then go to File - Size - Expand. it will ask if you want to increase the number of waypoints to XXX so just press yes.
remember to always set the ''Max number of waypoints'' for each file. if you think you need more then just add more, then ''expand'' again.
i really should do a tutorial on this.. lol
Didn't know you could do that. It's not the most intuitive piece of software to be fair.
Thanks for the tip

Thanks Bibio, I'm starting to get the hang of Tyre now, the TomTom 400 comes with the pro version which I think is a bit better. Any idea why it keeps putting waypoints on the equator though???

seems to be a bug in the latest update as i have been getting a few as well. just delete the ones on the equator.

The points on the equator are intentional, the software has been especially adapted for BMW GS riders (awaits wrath from Rapingdavis LOL....)

Woop Woop
so it does.. mind you whats the point when gmaps is a pile of steaming dog poo now. having to work in tyre for a few month now its actually better then trying to use the new gmaps.

Gmaps is better at determining private roads that I can't use whilst tyre will let me use any road without warning. Also Tyre often won't let me click and drag to modify routes and just generally lags a bit and adds in odd detours ie. riding down a road between two waypoints it decides I need to go down a side road, do a u turn, then carry on with my route, no amount of moving or removing waypoints will stop Tyres quest to take me on this 20m detour. Also if I just Google a place it brings up where it is on a map, then I can just copy the link rather than find the same place in Tyre, especially as Gmaps knows my history (benefit of phone/browser synchronizing) so brings up where I want in about three letters as well as providing traffic info (using historic data for future routes and live data for current routes). I find Gmaps is better for getting the basics right then refining it down in Tyre although being forced to use exclusively Tyre has definitely taught me some of the extra features only found in Tyre, but that's just the way I use it!
tyre uses gearth as does gmaps so both will be the same. you might have run out of waypoints on tyre so go into the preferences and then file to increase the number of waypoints.
if you can plan it in gmaps you can plan it in tyre. there is no difference to the base mapping. gmaps only lets you have 24 (i think) waypoints in total where tyre will give you 1000's if you really wanted.
as in gmaps if you place the waypoint on the wrong side of the road on dc/mw it will take you all sorts of routes or go round and round in circles.
the problems occur when you put the route into your spaznav depending on how you have the spznav set up.

Strange I have the same issue with gearth lagging as well as Tyre but gmaps is much faster online. I've discovered Tyre gives more way points and about sides of the road but this is a weird bug that forces me to go down a side road and do a u-turn even if I remove all the waypoints from the route and start a new route e.g. I'll start a route where I live, this bug will occur, I'll remove all the way points, start a new route up in Scotland and it will still take me to this side road to perform a u-turn. Only way I can fix it is to restart Tyre and build a new route.
that is a strange one. i know i have to zoom in to make sure that some waypoints are correctly on the road or my spznav has a fit.
another thing i do from using it all the time is never trust anything. i always load the route into my spaznav and check the route manually. only takes 10min and if i find a problem i sort it in tyre and try again. some of the waypoints and up as small turn at the side of the road on the spaznav but thats down the the mapping on the nav but you get used to it so learn to ignore it.
another thing. DONT put waypoints on junctions, always before or after.
always open the file as waypoints and not route points/tracks
here is one i done last night for sunday http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=02778701373021597134 (http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=02778701373021597134)
