I can definitely see its advantages for track use rather than road but still useful.

Tyre manufactures spend thousands on testing their tyres and know what tyre pressures are needed to produce the correct heat for the tyre to work, reading a tyre you can if its been run to hot or to cold. I would rather spend the cash on a new pair of tyres.
