Evening All,

After a bit of European advice.

Off on a euro tour shortly taking in lots of euro countries. We were planning on using our Sena intercoms for GPS directions and to talk to the good lady pillion. This should be all good in France (with the new laws), as it is not in-ear headphones but mounted in the helmet lining.

However all I can find is conflicting information about using them in Spain, some info sources say any intercom is illegal no matter how you listen to it, others say its the same as France, as long as its not in-ear its OK.

Anybody got any clear information/ experience?

Thanks

Christian

Cheers,

I think that might have been one of the articles I found during my internet rummaging.

My only worry is if I were to be pulled over, I'm not sure I'm capable of arguing the finer points of a legal precedent set by a previous court ruling in Spanish.

I was hoping I could find some clear rules/statement. Perhaps I'm Hoping for too much.

Keep us posted what you find, it has never even occurred to me that this might be illegal abroad.

I was in Spain for 5 days at the beginning of the month with my sena 20s. Rode past plenty of guarda civil and never stopped. Got stopped at a roadside checkpoint thing, one walked round my bike and let me go. Don't think it's a great issue.

Sent from my magical portable device

I got the following response from Sena customer support:

Dean, Jul 22, 10:35 AM:
Hi Christian,

I have read that some riders have been stopped by local police because they were using Bluetooth headset.

So don't use your intercom while in Spain.

Regards,

Dean

Seems like a bit of a "we are not sure" but are covering their backs incase there is actually an issue

Yes. Hopefully it can be sorted.
Just a thought.
Can you get intouc with the British embassy in Spain??
After all its why we pay taxes and well if they don't know. What chance do we have.
Ps
You can ask for a refund from the supplier too.
Email them back and say you only bought it for the trip to Spain.
Might be the kick up the bum they need.

Well I made it through the Spanish part of my trip using the intercom without issue. Passed a few police cars/ checks without being flagged. That's not to say it wouldn't ever be an issue though.
