I'm just wondering how much people are getting on there tank of fuel. As I have a 2005 sv650 if model and sometimes I get up to 100 miles before the fuel light comes on and so far I've got up to 125 miles and it's not on yet. How many miles have you done on a full tank. Thanks

SV650S K6, only had it 6 weeks but I recently did 140 miles from brim-full before refuelling, and the fuel light still wasn't on. That's with mixed riding, some town work, some cruising, some making progress :)

Fair enough I'm not entirely convinced it works lol ( fuel light ) as mine once came on for about a minute , didn't flash and then went out again lol

10 miles per litre on a K3sv1000 pretty much regardless of how I'm riding it. Comes out to 112 miles between full and yellow light.

Fuelly.com gives a good indication of folks tank range for any bike.

K8. Average 60mpg. That's about 160miles to flashing light and about 224 from filling up to stunning out of fuel.

i'm 11.5st in my birthday suit. not a slow rider but not a seriously fast one either.

i'm not stuck in traffic up here when out on my runs and i'm doing 30-50 mile stints without stopping for longer that 2-3min at junctions or lights.

yesterday was a short run, filled up in the morning and done 198miles. the light as usual came on at 170 odd miles and i filled up with 14.42ltr. i always brim my tank that leaves 2.5ltr still in the tank at 13mpl so i could have gone another 32 miles till i was pushing.

the sv has 4ltr in reserve when the light starts the slow on/off so i know once that light comes on i have 50 miles left in the tank.

That explains it then, Im 18 stone and the other half is on the back most of the time, also mostly start stop town riding... I may also be throttling it at every set of lights.

That's not much worse though.

Hi guys, my SV's K4 seems to give 120miles on Full Tank, this seems low from what I'm reading? Perhaps I'm riding her too hard?

You odometer must be reading in km's...........

We've had this discussion on here before so I know I'm at the opposite end of the scale from Bibio where I'm lucky to see 100 miles before I need to fill up.

Having said that I only ride my SV recreationally, I very rarely take it on motorways or into town, and it's got a PC3 fitted which I know puts it a bit on the rich side as some points of the curve.

I guess what I'm saying is you shouldn't worry about it!

i suppose its not fair saying MPT as that is full to pushing so i'll give the MPL figures.

avg 13.20mpl = 60.02mpg
min 11.66mpl = 53.00mpg
max 15.34mpl = 69.75mpg

I can get 130-140 miles until light starts flashing. I weigh 110 kgs and only have a quarter inch on my chicken strip , so you can judge how I ride when I'm on my own....

Hmmm, lets just say I need to ask a lot of people a lot of the time how far it is to the next petrol station... There again, I don't have a SV :)

I'm 15 stone in my kit and most of my journeys are under 15 miles each way, usually in quite heavy traffic, so part pootling in a queue and part manic overtaking. My K3 naked averages 10.4 MPL, around 50mpg except for one tankful where I caned it and only got 38mpg.

I'm 14st and knocking out an average of 60MPG on my K9, but this is 300 miles of commuting a week, but only 50 miles of that is motorway - I treat going to and from work like a ride out so I'm not hanging about, but I'm also not the fastest rider out there SV #2 (http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/suzuki/sv650s/2009/nutsinatin/345955) SV #1 (http://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/suzuki/sv650s/2009/nutsinatin/206207).

I regularly get 135/140 miles before the light starts to flash. I'm probably just over 15 stone and only use the bike for fun, so country roads at a fun pace!

And I have a K6 650!

Aye true, I am a mere amateur. If you wanna burn fuel like a pro, go Italian!

On a 3500 km trip last week, I averaged 3.7 liters/100 (76.4 mpg) at 100 km/hour. At 110 it dropped to 3.9 liters/100 (72.4 mpg). I eeked 400 km (250 miles) out of one tank.

Remember, that was a steady-state speed. The v-strom 1000 that rode with me, burned almost exactly one liter per 100 km more. It looks like I burned a hundred and sixty dollars Canadian worth of fuel on 3500 kilometers. I think that's a very inexpensive trip!

ive worked it out now and im getting around 130-140 miles to a tank (£15) but always use supreme fuel

You arent using the whole tank then, I have got 180-190 before now and put £21 Premium in it, and it wasnt about to conk out either.

My K3 got around 70 mpg at a constant 70mph. Not quite 76 but getting there. Possibly the dullest boringest experiment I've ever done. 240 miles to a tank until I chickened out and filled up.

Incidentally what kinda gallons do they use in Canada?

think the Canadians use US gal.

if i were to ride at a constant 70mph on a motorway i think i might be in the 80mpg range but i have never tried as i dont do MW's (they bore me to tears) and i think the furthest i have travelled on a DC/MW is 50 miles. my bike is purely recreational and as such i dont hang about. i mainly ride twisty A roads and a lot of single track roads so constantly on and off the throttle.

one of the biggest causes of high fuel consumption is dragging brakes and that is why i strip and service my brakes once a year, better to spend a bit of time and pennies on RRG/fluid once a year than loads on petrol thorough not to mention the cost of seals and pistons if you neglect them.

When we use the gallon measurement, it's mostly imperial. It's an odd mix here. We buy gas in liters. We see US fuel mileage figures in miles/us gallon. When we calculate personal fuel mileage, it's liters/100 and then sometimes convert to miles/imperial, depending on when you were born. When fueling aircraft, it's liters / 3.78 for US gallons. And then most calculations from there. The Gimli glider incident (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gimli_Glider) was a Boeing 767 that ran out of fuel and glided to a old air base because of a bad calculation. The figures I quoted were in imperial gallons.

Hows that for a convoluted answer?

1999 Curvy with over 80k miles on the clock. 1.83m tall, 100kg rider.

12 litres (brimmed to reserve light coming on) sees 125 miles on normal commuting in to London, with top box on, and general use. With, huge, panniers and top box fitted and with wife on the back motorway cruising at about 90 and gentle accelaration to get there sees about the same. With the same panniers and top box but no pillion playing the 100 game on the motorway (not going below 100mph for ANYTHING...) and wringing its neck on the throttle to get there the same 12 litres give 100 miles.

So between 37 and 47mpg....
