View Full Version : How Long for Repair

So I had the misfortune to be knocked off in June (not my fault)

It had to go to the assessors and as it was more than 66% of the value of the bike i had to wait for the other parties insurance to say if they would fix or settle

It turned out they wanted to repair
Fair enough i thought i will have this back pretty quick

Well it has been 4 weeks since they gave the go ahead to repair and they are still saying it will be anther 2 weeks until the parts are in

It is just a 08 fireblade

They are trying to blame the channel tunnel chaos as to the reason for the long delays for parts (not buying that at all)

How long did it take an insurance company to fix your bike ?

Just frustrated more than anything as i only tax it for 6 months of the year

Chuck in a claim for out-of-pocket expenses, such as public transport use, taxis and extra fuel for using a car, and for the unused tax period. See if that speeds it up.

It can take up to 3 months to repair. The central stocks for bikes are in Germany and they're normally fed ex or DHL

Speak to the insurance company about getting that refunded

I agree, load of balls. I ordered a Conti road attack from Tyreleader and it was sourced from deepest Bavaria. It took just 4 days to arrive.

I don't believe the excuse of channel tunnel for one second

What grates me is that they say one date and then come up with another one when the original passes

Sorry to hear about yours Ben

I just want to get out and ride while the sun shines.

I'd advise them your not happy with the situation and will take the bike to a different garage to get repaired in a more timely manner. Then pass that bill over to them to pay.

If you do that, the first garage is likely to charge you for storage and you would, in all likelihood, be required to pay it. Your insurer would probably refuse to pick up the charge as it is not directly related to the insured incident.

Jerry, as it's not your fault have they supplied a replacement bike while yours is off the road ? If not, tell the insurers you need a bike and they need arrange one at no cost to yourself...

I did not take the bike option as i honestly thought the bike would be written off and i would get the cash
The value of the repair is something in the region of £4k
At one point they were saying the delay was down to the carbon fiber item which i had on the bike which was causing them grief so i gave them permission to find an alternative

Not really fussed about having a hire bike, i just want mine back so i can go and do a couple of track days
Doubt i would be able to do this on a hire one

I will phone them on Monday for another update

Having a hire bike ramps up costs for the insurer, which might encourage them to be a bit more proactive on your repairs.

At the moment, however much time it takes to fix your bike isn't impacting on them so, whatever the problem really is, it's easy to kick the can down the road and prioritise something else.

Even though you don't actually want a hire bike it might be worth suggesting that you will need one if your bike isn't back in X days. Might help to focus their attention.

Arghh!
I don't have that option on my insurance (just checked)
No hire bike allowed

Also the repair's just called and said they have received the front mud guard but ASV sent in the wrong lever (a shorty as opposed to a standard)
So now more time to wait
Back to square one with no date for parts

Doesn't usually matter as this is provided by the other side's insurance.
Just ensure it's proven that you're not at fault or it can come back and bite you.

On right. Sorry I had thought it was the other insurer that was fixing your bike.

No one has told me the other side has admitted liability
He pulled out from a minor onto a major but they was a car pulling off in front of me which i made progress around

I will phone the insurance again to see if they have admitted to it yet as the driver did say i was at fault
My insurance company have closed the case and my no claims is in tack

Does it make a difference if it is there insurance sorting it out (have no idea this is my first accident and hopefully last)

If you're at fault you'll lose some or all of your no claims unless it's protected.

By "at fault" this decides who ends up paying for your repairs. If you can prove it's the other guy at fault, his insurance will pay for it. Otherwise it's yours.

Unfortunately it's not enough to know you're not at fault - unless you can prove it, or he admits it, you'll take a financial hit.

My no claims is not protected and i have a letter saying that

"my no claims bonus will not be affected by this claim"

ophic

Perhaps the other guy's insurance has admitted fault on his behalf.

You will have had an excess on your policy. If you haen't been asked to contribute this amount for the repairs, it means that the other insurer has accepted liability. Your letter stating that your no claims is not adversely affected would confirm this.

I have been speaking to the claim department at the accident management company
No one has accepted liability
I have signed a credit repair form as i stated i was not at fault (signed it on the day i got knocked off apparently)

They have not chased the other party
So i mentioned had they best not sort this out (wondering if they even bothered to speak to the witnesses
Doubt they will be of any use now not exactly fresh in their minds)

Frustrating dealing with these people
