View Full Version : Baffle back in, is fuelling affected?

I'm currently using my bike for commuting and am considering refitting the baffle on my exhaust to quieten things down a little. Would this affect the fuelling/running of the bike at all? It's a full arrow system, along with bigger jets and opened up k&n. Not sure what affect refitting the baffle would have on this set up other than a reduction in noise. Thanks.

very slight increase in back pressure but you will be fine. put it in and go for a ride.

Thanks Bibio, will give it a go. As nice as the exhaust sounds, it can get a bit much on my daily commute.

i must be getting old but i CBA with loud cans any more. ok so the odd occasional blast is ok but it becomes a bit much after 20odd miles let alone 300. as for it being safer well thats debatable as most cage drivers listen to the radio or music and cant even hear emergency service sirens blasting so what chance has a loud can.

I prefer baffle in and the bike still records 99db at noise testing which seems just right for me, can still enjoy the v-twin bellow with out it being over whelming, could just be my imagination but the bike feels like it runs a little better with it in.

I agree, the noise is good with or without baffle in. You might be right about it running better with extra back pressure. Reckon you get better low-mid range power.
Could be my aging brain and too much riding in miser-mode.
Either way, certainly the FI bike I own, seems to run sweet as with the aftermarket exhaust, with or without baffles.
Tend to put mine back in for the winter as less shenaniganising going on!

More restriction means richer running, but by how much is anyone's guess. If your bike has been dyno set up without the baffle then yes it will run a bit richer, if you've just been randomly upjetting it anyway then I would continue not to worry. As for power, on the road I doubt you'll notice any difference.
