This question may have been asked before but I did a search and couldn't find anything really relevant.
Is there any hint on how to get a Gladius front pipe off? I had a quick go at the weekend. I managed to get the bolts out and ease the connection to the Cat. I didn't try heat but I did give it a batter with a mallet but it didn't want to move.
I am assuming this is stuck in with a bit of Bi-Metal corrosion. Any tips on how to get this off. I only want to paint it.
The other things question is? what is the front pipe made of. If it is mild steel mine is in remarkably good condition for a 25k bike? if it's not it's pretty poor quality Stainless.

It's based on the same principles as the SV it's the latter of course! So it's low chrome content stainless... but in your heart of hearts you knew that didn't you?!!

It'll polish up nicely, just get some Optiglanz on it to get the worst of the brown stuff off, then polish it with autosol.

Yeah, I kinda worked that bit out. I've not seen it the new bike daylight yet so couldn't be sure. It just looked too damn good to be Mild steel. I've been riding a Suzuki GS500 with a mild steel header for the last 10 years and that pipe just dissolves.
I think I might be getting the polishing kit out, it would be so much easier if I could get the blasted thing off first.

Er... what is Optiglanz?
Ho Hum, this 2 week project is getting to be a bit more than I first expected. At least I have the paint now and I can get it all looking pretty.

Ooh Sarcasm to the new guy. I prefer to ask questions. it shows an intelligent interest rather than blasé blundering with a keyboard.
I've never managed to split the SV pipes.
If you can free it off at the stub on the rear cylinder then you can get the rest of the system off in one piece with a combination of rocking it to and fro then prising the front off with a sturdy length of timber, accompanied by judicious application of violence and swearing.
In line with most of the answers you'll get on here, this is based on experience with SV's but should work much the same on the Gladius I would have thought. Take it easy and don't break anything :)
