View Full Version : Is fully faired worth it?

I am stupid and ride in all weathers, including ice, snow and rain despite having a much newer, water-tight and air conditioned car.
Question is, would I gain any extra weather protection (like the smug BMW rider I see every morning who never nods) for the money?
Second question is why BMW and Mercedes fit indicators to any of their vehicles as they don't appear to work outside the factory? :D
Thank you in advance for considering my plight.

Having ridden half faired and faired, faired is a bit better, but I wouldn't fit lowers for this reason alone as they cost a bunch and the benefit is only mild on an SV.

I found that my biggest benefit came from hand guards to help direct the icy cold breeze away from my hands. I don't know how you'd get some to attach to clip ons though...
for the price of the lowers you can buy a very nice pair of textile trousers that will protect you more.
only reason i have lowers is they hide a multitude of sins as i'm not one for washing my bike often. think its about twice a year i will take the lowers off and give the bike a good clean, the rest of the time its just the paintwork i will wash down.

I suspected as much and the plastic does seem to be very expensive. I was hoping there might be an alternative to shrink wrapping myself before setting off for work!
Thanks for the info.

I've now got full fairings - I'll miss warming my hands up on the radiator pipes and the engine when its freezing but everything underneath will be cleaner and away from the elements

See, I'd miss those hand warmers!! The tactile delights of the gentle squeeze of the pipe too!
