Here she is, picked her up this evening, stood 2 years in a dry garage, but fired up straight away on jump leads. A bargain for £400 methinks. 30k on it, but well serviced. It's had ktech fork springs 6 months before it was taken off the road and the rear shock serviced. No rattles ticked over lumpy but fuel must be minging. So my plan is to get the carbs off first and give them a good clean then MOT time 👍

Looks good! My 10p worth is, I'd change the oil & filter and coolant, change the brake fluid, and just run a premium fuel like V-Power or BP Ultimate, and see how it goes. It might not need the carbs tearing into straight away (it can be a fiddly job), it might just need a good detergent-heavy petrol running though it.

That's a bargain!

Ah ok mate, thanks for the advice ! Shall I just drain the tank then and get some super unleaded run through her ?

I will change all the filters/fluids and stuff mate, that's a given

You could drain the tank, depends how much juice there is left in it. Definitely use Shell, Esso or BP super though as that is high-detergent stuff. I used to run my old 2-stroke bike on that stuff (it had a mld tune) and the carbs were as clean as a whistle inside after 15+ years, and that bike used to be laid up without use for months over winter.

For the coolant there's a drain plug on the water pump - here's a good "how to" with pics: http://www.svrider.com/forum/showthread.php?t=54075

I'll second the good fuel thing.
Throw some BP Ultimate or similar in it, for the next tank or two. I run all my bikes on premium stuff, and ones that have been laid up a while it definitely helps when you put them back on the road.

Cheers lads

Couple more questions:

How do you remove the rear tank bolt ?

Also can you get a bolt/screw kit for the fairings as half of them are rounded or missing

Take seat off, two bolts on the hinge underneath, off pops your tank.

fairing screws, washes etc available on the likes of ebay. I got mine off http://www.pro-bolt.com/

+1 on changing fluids.

My brake fluid was dark orange and treacly!

Drain coolant by removing radiator cap and catching the coolant from undoing the drain plug. Sticky out bolt head just behind the hose between rad and water pump.

Took me 2 days to work out how to remove the rear seat ... Finally googled it :D

It's got a set of nearly new pilot tyres on it, I'm just concerned with it being sat on them for 2 years, they are spotless, do you think they'll be flat spotted, they're still very full of air

If you have stands, get it on them and give the wheels a spin. Or just take it easy on your first ride ride and you may notice the vibration from the flat spots. Or you may have lucked out and notice nothing at all!

At £400 for the bike, a new set of tyres is a small price to pay to make good a very tidy looking machine.

We are all envious!

Cheers mate, I can't believe the deal I've got. I did the lads house for him (I'm a joiner now 15yrs but ex mechanic from school 5 yrs) about 5 years ago plus I know him from 10 Years of kick boxing and he's really done me a favour

I'm thinking get rid as they are dirty things and I'm just going to be going for 4 hr blasts on a Sunday, what do you guys think ?
