This is an urgent appeal to help a bunch of very sad and very desperate people out. Next summer this disperate collection of losers from around the country, will need a short holiday to help them keep sane and resonable people the rest of the year.

They will need help in getting somewhere nice, they will need help getting fed and watered and they will also need some entertaining on one of the days out.

They are a special bunch of people and therefore need a special type of person to look after them. For this help and assistance , you will get the endless paise and thanks of all thet attend and you will be held in a postion of almost worship like status amongst your peers.

Don't worry you are not alone in taking on this challenge. There are those that have stepped up to the plate in the past. They will be on hand to offer help and advice. They will review your plans, offer improvements and generally just be there, as a shoulder to cry on or just a little hug.

So, I am speaking directly to you. This is your time for a shot at greatness. Your chance to stand on the shoulders of giants. Just take that big step for mankind and put yourself up for...........

No silly voting on venue's or routes or dates. You decide when and where. You decide a route. Myself, Carlesschucca and bibio will be on hand to support you and advise.:kiss: And our own little ginger cuddles has said he would even be willing to lead the ride, if enough notice of route is given.

Don't let this great institution disappear. Dean, god love him, has decided to take a break from organising. I organised one a few years a go and thourghly enjoyed it. It's hard work, but the end product of bringing the SV community together is worth your efforts.

Happy to do whatever I can from down here, which extends to Internet research and phone calls. What I can't do obviously is recce accommodation and routes in person.

Maybe it needs a bit of project management and delegation? A list of everything that needs done and hand out all the jobs to all the volunteers (there's quite a few on this thread). Make it an equal team effort rather than 90% of it falling to one person.

Also why not choose a tourist town with plenty accommodation, like for instance Pitlochry or Aviemore, choose a pub as a meeting point for the evening festivities, then let people find and book thier own accommodation. Everyone that comes to the GM is a grown up, they don't really need a free of charge tour operator.

Then you just need to organise a rideout, or I'll organise it and someone needs to recce it for me.

Seriously though, what do you guys think? Most of the GM attendees are adults, and they come because they like the roads and they get a couple of nights out with their friends.

So long as those two things are there, people will still go without all the organisation that comes with laying it all on for them.

I'd rather see that than no GM.

I'm in. Dates I don't know about, but Felicity won't take a lot of persuading to spend a weekend in a nice hotel in Pitlochry.

Of course, where to gather in the evening is crucial and I volunteer to be in charge of checking out the local pubs between now and then, leader of men that I am.

Sounds like a plan, but -

-too many miles for ride. You'll struggle to get everybody round and back in a decent time. 200 would be the max for a GM IMHO.

-when?, if its during the English school holidays, lots of traffic around Pitlochry. Would have to be before middle of July when they break up.

I like the idea of a less organised GM, Dean did such a good job over the past few years , it can be seen as a bit of a big task. So free and easy, wouldn't be bad.

The only downside is the possible/probable fracturing into groups as accommodation is spread around, people are unlikely to want to get on their bikes to go to a central point. The social side is an important part of any GM, would this fail if we were all housed separate? That's my big worry, but if this or no GM, maybe this is the better of the 2 options ! I just looked at a hostel in Pitlochry, decided that would be OK, looked at community area's and decided carry out and sit about ! What about everybody else? they would want to suit themselves! Why not!

Don't forget, Drink Drive limit is virtually zero in Scotland, so heavy drinking sessions on the Friday and Saturday are maybe a thing of the past anyways !!!

The accommodation has to be within walking distance of the pub/meeting point, which is what made me think of Pitlochry. The nearest camping option would be Milton of Fonab caravan park, which is 1 mile from the town centre or a 20 minute walk. Sounds like a lot but it's 10 minutes to walk from Beinglas to the Drovers Inn and we all managed that. The YHA Hostel is in the town centre as is most of the hotels. Plenty B&B's are in the suburbs within a mile.

As for fragmentation, this has happened before at GM's where we've all been at the same place, such as Beinglas where half the group stayed at the bar and half went down to the Drovers. Also at Cruachan Farm social groups in the evening split between those staying in caravans and those staying in tents. It is a risk if left unaddressed, but I think it's reasonable to stress the importance of this to the success of the weekend in advance when the details are posted, and ask everyone that's coming if they could please make an effort to join in. If they've made the effort to ride up from England, they should make the effort to join in with the evening plans? It can't be made compulsory obviously, if someone wants to sit in their tent all evening that's their loss. I will definitely be joining in with the evening plans, I can come up and ride the roads any time I want, the people are the only reason I attend.

I looked at the Inveraray Hostel (http://www.inverarayhostel.co.uk/) a couple of years ago but it was in a state of flux at the time (up for sale) so left it.

That could also be a base. Its about 50 yards up the road from the garage at the white arch. it has a large hard parking area in the back too.

No licensed bar and only has 28 beds, so we could have it as one accommodation option if we decided upon Inveraray, but we'd still need to find a pub capable of feeding us and some people would still need to book B&B's within walking distance.

Website says they will, but you have to book and pay for the whole thing, £650 for two nights. Not sure what the payment terms on that are. Sounds like someone might have to stump it up in advance, which I don't think you'd get many volunteers for.

Anyway, having been involved in organising GM's 1, 2 and 3, I don't want to see this great institution disappear.

I'm happy to pick up the torch and organise this, but I would need local volunteers to do some recce work, I obviously can't do it alone from 400 miles away.

I'll publish lists of accommodation options for people to book. I'll plan the rideout, somebody Scotland based needs to recce it. Al has said he'll sort the evening venue. I'll run the various threads, track attendees and answer questions. I'm happy to come up one weekend a couple of months before to check things out for myself. As you all well know, I'm thick skinned enough not to give a s**t if somebody's not happy with what has been arranged on their behalf.

There, the offer is there.

Have a chin wag amongst yourselves and let me know.

If you think it won't be the GM you want based upon what I've suggested so far, or you think it can't be done from Englandshire and it needs a Scotland based person, I'll back away and no hard feelings. It's an SVEcosse rideout and I'm not SVEcosse any more, so you guys need to be happy with it.

Not sure how many, but a few do require more private accommodation.
Both Inveraray and aviemore have there pro's and con's. Traffic around aviemore is bad, but lots of accommodation. Inveraray has lots less traffic, can actually use glencoe on the run, but less accommodation choices, but does have cental meet point to drink carry out. ( worked well couple of years ago, Fort Augustus.

Yes I did, was on my phone and god knows where I got Aviemore from !!!

I stayed in a campsite north of Pitlochry a few years ago, near the house of bruar. There were pitched battles between the weegie teenagers on the park !!! We left after one night.

It is very touristy, prices for accomodation could be expensive in the summer? You know this lot are a bunch of cheapskates ! ;-)

What I'm suggesting (and the premise under which I'm happy to arrange this, because I can't do lots of recce work, I have to use google) is that we don't have a "base".

We give a time and a place to meet on the Friday and Saturday evening, preferably a large pub with the capability to seat and feed everybody, and request that people do come along to that meet rather than swan off into little groups. If we can find one that has a band playing on the Saturday that would be perfect. Shouldn't then be much different to the evenings we had at Kinlochleven in August.

Then in the morning you give a meeting point and time, preferably somewhere that has a large cafe and petrol nearby, and start the rideout from there.

We all know how difficult and time consuming it is to find a place that can sleep everybody, meet everyone's accommodation needs/budget, and feed them all.

I certainly can't find us a new "base" from down here. The only way of me arranging a base is to use somewhere we've used successfully before (Beinglas, Cruachan, Kinlochleven, etc).

Doesn't have to be Pitlochry, just anywhere that has a few accommodation options and a few pubs. I'm googling that in Inveraray now.

Booked me and the next Mrs Tiger in to a nice Pitlochry B&B on Friday the 19th of February. We'll either check out the local hostelries and eateries if that's where the GM is headed or have a dirty weekend.
