Considering the continued sales of the SV650S it was a matter of time before someone thought this would be a good idea
To me it just looks like tidied up gladius.

I like it, never really liked the Gladius - the exhaust hanger was all wrong. Blah...
If it means the SV650 keeps going then that's a good thing.

I'd like to see them updating the SV650S to match as well, although they still seem to be shifting quite well without the updates.

I hate it, its just a gladius, dont see the point sorry :/
they've reverted back to the curvy frame?
they've reverted back to the curvy frame?
No. The curvy was cast aluminium. The Gladys reverted back to a heavier steel tube frame and I would guess that this is the same frame.

To me it just looks like tidied up gladius.
I always thought all the Gladius needed was some of the styling issues sorted out - and to stop calling it a Gladius :)
Although they've done most of that, the styling is still a bit meh for me - too much plastic. Would make a decent enough bike but it's not setting my pulse racing.
I could be tempted though if the price was right...but then I'd want a front end swap, uprated shock etc etc and eventually conclude I should have just bought a Street Triple in the first place :)
The blue wheels are nice. And it's not called gladioli.
My mum told me - If you can't say something nice say nowt, Can't think of anything else nice to say, so yeah, nice wheels !!!!!
Now an S version, with fairings and USD front end ??? Never gonna happen :-(

This...
Having put a few miles on a Street Triple I would buy one every time over this - although it would have to have the alarm removed if fitted :)
Looks nice though - always been a fan of round headlight bikes :D

It's a restyled Gladys... I actually like the white/blue one.
I've never ridden an SV650 so I can't comment but SWiMBO's Gladys is a little cracker of a bike.
Like it. Gone back to basics. Like the circular headlight. It's a less girly Gladius, with a bit more poke.
I can't see why anyone would choose this over the gsr750.
Unless it's Way cheaper

Most of it looks nice. Not exciting or sexy, just nice. But it looks like they stole a tank from another bike then slapped some plastic under it to make it fit the frame.
The tail looks nice. Are there any pics from behind?

I think Suzuki have missed the boat. Given the choice of this or the Yamaha MT07, I think the yam wins hands down.

It's a year too late and needs to take parts from the gsr big brothers
I agree with rapid gas,now that has a sense of purpose, even the frame looks as if it got something about it,that SV looks as if it's all unnecessary,I like the more upright seating position,as I put bar conversion on the SV,but I would wait and see what the upcoming turbo looks like in the flesh
Sorry rapidgaz,bloody predictive text !!!

I happen to like it and as someone has already said, if it means the sv name carries on for longer then great. Still has the punchy v twin engine. I remember when they brought the pointy out after the curvy and people were against the pointy. Give it time. I have to say that if i hadnt of bought my 2015 sv and were still running my k4 then i would go for this.
Looks comfortable to me.
usd forks and better rear shock aint going to happen on a budget bike like an sv.

Now that with bars and a SV engine is IT,but I won't be a budget bike, look and learn Suzuki
I guess it will have to be £500 cheaper than the MT with ABS.
A bit more here.

So, the weight comes off the instrument cluster, the ABS unit and the exhaust.
New frame and a 13.8 litre tank (ignore the 14.5 litre tank claim unless your in the US)
I don't see the point of making it narrower, I'm still the same width.
Low Rev adjustment? Doesn't that address the TPS setup problems that we all remove asap?
Not sure it's a new SV, or a new SFV without the F but what does that matter? I get what's being said about comparison with the MT07; the SV lacks the torque and needs more revving!!!

18-11-15, 06:50 AM
And how about this.
That Husky reminds me of the Aprilia Blue Marlin that the world seemed to go mental for a few years back. Then Aprilia admitted they'd struggle to build it.
Sadly I find the styling for most Suzukis bland and dated. It's a shame. I do hope they bring out a faired SV in their next batch of bikes...
Suzuki's styling is lacking recently. The new gsxr1000 doesn't look significantly different to it predecessor. The gsx-s1000f looks like one of the Angry Birds.
Jayneflakes
18-11-15, 09:29 AM
Hmmm, things that I don't like are the following
Exhaust
Swing arm
Mirrors
Front mudguard
Plastic covers
Rear mudguard
Saddle
Things I do like are
Wheels
Frame
I think that this looks like a design that could have worked a couple of years ago, but is already dated. As others have said, this looks like a "Gladys" (sic) and I was never taken with the styling of them. However, in the right hands there is potential to make this little beast look nice, but it will need some work.
The pillion on my K3 is already very much of the paving slab variety, the pillion on this one looks worse, but I guess we need to try it to confirm our fears on that one.
Let's see how well it does on the market, that may well be a guide to dear Suzuki.
What really puzzles me is that Suzuki got it spot on with the original SV's and then went off at a tangent with the Gladys. I wonder if Suzuki thought they were trying to copy the Monster or Aprilia Shiva with the Gladys, if you look at the Gladys with a squint you can see a resemblance.

I like the round headlight but not the back end. If it fits the traditional low cost first-big-bike market the SV/SFV has been so good at filling then it will sell. Lots of newbies or born agains who prefer the simple styling this has will like it.
Fen Tiger
18-11-15, 04:25 PM
I quite like it but it's success depends on being good value more than anything I reckon. I can forgive my SV all sorts of failings as the price was right. I like the oil cooling/temp control fitting behind the filter rather than a separate rad.
The front mudguard is too small to guard against mud. Pyramid Plastics will be rubbing their hands together at the potential sales of fender extendas!

Even if if it is a minimally re-styled Gladius it's kept the good bits and added a few more so it's an improvement performance wise over the previous 2 generations of SV's which were damn good bikes.
Styling was always questionable on the SV's (beauty is in the eye of the beholder) it was always that v-twin that sold the bike so look for Suzuki to sell a bunch more of them.
A third generation SV and a whole new generation of riders is a good thing for motorcycling and the org.

+1 i totally agree with this. for me it looks like a great bike, so what it dont look like a curvy or a pointy, its a budget bike with a totally brilliant engine.
the other day i was thinking its about time Suzuki released a new naked sv.
Too many people putting the new bike down because it not what we come to love about the older bikes, but life changes and things we buy change. I think it will sell very well and theres always a demand for a sv with more upright riding postion. i bet you can get on this new one and it will ride like a naked pointy.
I'm guilty of putting the gladius down, this new bike does correct the mistakes made there though.
I guess I'm slightly possessive about the SV brand and I want it to flourish and grow. It was one of Suzuki's biggest sellers and yet they let it slip through their fingers. They admit themselves that in the last decade they've concentrated on sales of smaller bikes in the far East as that's where the money is. Still they've woken up now and we should see some new models coming through. Let's hope there's a 650s amongst them.

It is still just a tarted up Gladys.
So many missed opportunities.
I wouldn't ever go back to a steel frame. I don't want a dual seat. I would want more power, better suspension, brakes etc..
With a reworked engine, they should have used the opportunity to be targeting 100BHP. OK that would mean no longer a 650, but more attractive to those who want a fun V twin that handled.
A vtwin bandit i guess. What bout a nice RR version with decent suspension, anniversary colours,
Thing is,the SV is a budget bike,I paid £3999 on the road,it was pre reg in April 13 as I brought it in the June,0 miles, taxed, usual 2 year warranty, with 1 year AA breakdown cover,a L2 in White, thats great value for money.what we are all asking for is going to cost, better this, better that, add that etc( me included),so your budget bike is then in the realms of some serious competition. The SV is the nicest bike I have owned in 45+ years of biking and I've had a good selection.i think it will be the same as all the others I've had,it will come to its natural end, fade into history with a hundred or so left knocking about, and you'll be searching through the bike mags etc looking for one with that misty eyed expression thinking,I had one of them, great bike......I'm still looking for my old Honda CX 650 TURBO,1984 A312 DGU if anyone knows of it existence,I had one of them, great bike!!!

I'm pretty sure it's legal, The Moto Guzzi V7 Racer comes with a number on the side.
There was a thread on piston heads where someone asked and was told it's fine.

They have a big market here as race bikes as well street bikes.

what are Suzuki up to, yet another pats bin special. while all the rest of the manufacturers are making an effort to upgrade suspension/brakes on their new middleweight bikes Suzuki decides to use the same old shizz from their ever ageing parts bins. ok i get the cost thing but FFS a few extra ££ on the ticket price would entice a loooot more people to think about it rather than look at bikes such as the MT-09. the designers need taken out and shot. its almost 2016 and Suzuki are still coming up with shizz like this. yet another waste of a good engine......

I'm liking the scrambler version......though it needs a decent after market pipe and maybe the ribbed seat from the 'other' concept bike (the one with the daft number on the side). Had a sit on a Ducati scrambler the other day with lovely Termignoni exhaust - Suzuki's marketing guys could learn a lot from it.....with the SV, they'd be starting with a vastly superior and more usuable bike. As others have said, a bit more attention to quality components to complement a great engine and they'd have a winner. Bring it on, Suzuki!

Change the wheel colour and the exhaust and I think it would look awesome! Thank goodness the round headlight isn't completely dead yet on a modern bike (retros excluded) - its a classic good look I think :)

It's an incredible result for Suzuki and one reason why they've updated the SV650, even though the half-faired SV650S continues in the current range.
It can't be long until that bike gets the same updates though, and Suzuki's engineers at the launch were keen to ask questions about what features an S version should have... but for now the naked SV650 gets the update treatment.
one report says discontinued and now this.
Sorry guys but it still does next to nothing for me !!!
one report says discontinued and now this.
Yes that was an interesting comment about views on an S version
I am surprised they have discontinued the S version, the popularity of the CBR500 and Ninja 300 have shown there is a market for small, cheap, sporty looking bikes.
I think the naked version looks like great value, the only real rival is the MT07, which is nowhere near as much fun as the old SV so can't imagine it being better than the new one.
Apart from the exhaust (which is still infinitely better looking than the exhaust on the old bike) I think it looks great.
Also don't know what to make of this:
But the focus on a bigger bhp number does come at a cost, with low-rev oomph reduced from previous models.
We found on our first ride in the Catalan region of Spain that the new SV’s power delivery really comes into its own from 6000rpm onwards, when there’s a rewarding surge of drive. This is a contrast from the more torquey-feeling earlier models – the new bike has the same peak torque output as the outgoing SFV (as the Gladius was renamed) at 47ftlb, but the old bike was kicking that out at 6400rpm while the new machine’s impressive new LCD rev counter has to be displaying 8100rpm to get the same thrust.
Half the fun of the SV is the almost instant smack of torque as soon as you get going.
All of this chat about torque and bhp makes me think I really should get and ride my bike rather than pull it apart.
Pulling it apart is a good stand in for the times you can't ride it but between the 2 I'd always choose ride!
Riding is generally cheaper too!
