I have the 99 model curvy and I have my handle bars adjusted to the touring style.I find I cant turn as much as I would like.

can you get more movement from lock to lock with the handle bars in the racing position or touring position?

is it worth while getting straight handle bars to gain more movement?

If you have the SV650S, straight bars will be worse as they will foul on the fairing.

yeah its the SV650S.
thanks for the heads up on that.
any clue about the adjustable handle bars that are standard for the best position?

The curvy is a right pain to get a higher rise and more comfort, without fouling the fairing.

I've got Gilles Variobars on mine, very adjustable and doesn't spoil the look, as they are clip ons. Getting them right without the brake reservior hitting the fairing was very tricky, and using a smaller reservior is helpful. There are other makes of vario type bars, or clip ons with a higher rise than standard, which are cheaper than the Gilles

The other good option is a top yoke conversion kit, so you can use higher bars, with more lock to lock, and better comfort.

The kit should incl everything you need, and the quality is top notch

this sounds very promising.
if I was to do this option would I be able to get handle bar guards on without messing up the movement?

Maybe with Matt Yokes top yoke conversion kit, but I reckon there's not enough clearance using my variobars
