View Full Version : Fork Internals

I have been starting a bit of winter fettling on the K3, would anyone be able to advise what internal kit I have in the forks from the photo of the springs removed ?. The previous owner advised Maxton internals and I presumed it was the GP20 cartridge kit as it came with the GP20 user instruction booklet, not so sure now having removed the springs and discovered a small top spring in addition to the main one - all the on line photos of Maxton GP20 show just a single longer main spring. The damping rod has an internal thread adjuster at the top for rebound adjustment, preload is fixed by spacers and there is no compression adjustment. The fettling is due to very little sag on the front (10mm) and I think this is likely due to the addition of the long spacer to the left of small spring, as this looks homemade and all the other bits are properly machined. I will likely half the length of this spacer and put it all back together, but would anyone recognise the setup ? Thanks

No idea (free bump) but that is one cute little spring!

Ha - saw the reply and clicked the thread with high expectations ! At the end of the day the forks seem to work ok, just that sag is way too low (too much preload) and I reckon this can be corrected by reducing the spacer length, so that's what I will do, add some fresh oil and see how it goes.

Minitwin compliant set-up by the looks of it, why not give Maxton a call to double check?

Dont all forks have the smaller spring? I thought I read it somewhere, just the longer one is changed/upgraded

It does look like a cartridge conversion.

The rest of it is still inside of course.

Normally you'd have this AND the big spring:

Thanks all, they are now back together with a smaller properly machined spacer and on the bike. Sag is now in the correct ball park - as suggested will email the photo to maxton and see if they recognise it as one of their kits.
