and clueless as usual. I thought we might have covered this already but I didn't manage to find it via the search. So...
With all the, erm, tomfoolery that seems to pass for driving these days, I thought a camera for my wife's car might be a good idea. I haven't looked at them as there are grillions and really it's an OMO post, so any words of advice or recommendations would be gratefully received.

I just bought one similar in the Amazon Black Friday deal. Mine is an Amacam version.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Amacam-AM-M80-Miniature-Windscreen-Warranty/dp/B00KQSETHQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1449207454&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=On+Dash+Cam+Amacam+AM-M80&psc=1
Got it for £27.99. Not tested it yet. Got it as people are always cutting up my missus and doing stupid things.

Bought one of above type branded under the E-prance Brand. Just had to get a cigarete lighter socket (Maplin) and fused Tpiece for connecting the supplied cigarrette lighter plug power lead to a switched 12V from the fuse box. Mine overlays GPS coordinated time and date. Large Class 10 micro SD card also needed.
Worked OK for a year now. Well worth while for the peice of mind.

Sorry I meant to come back and say thanks for the links. I don't know how many insurance companies give discounts for them? e.g.
www.adrianflux.co.uk/dash-cam-insurance/
am still looking though not terribly hard, but still nevertheless
Well it seems mine isn't HD. Quality is ok but nothing to shout about.

I'm getting this.

It's available for about £80. 1080p HD, excellent night quality, quite small, wifi connected for viewing.

Anyone bothered with getting a rearward facing camera too?
I have the mini 0801 in mine and have been thinking of getting the 0806. More than happy with how mine has been for the last 3 years or so. Only does 1080 30fps and would like 60fps and a bit better night time quality.

They're quite a bit more expensive! That's what I'd really want.

The Innovv K1 looks interesting, it's the bike specific version of the Koonlung K1 (probably marketed under a variety of names like many Chinese products). The format is excellent in principle, discrete front and rear weatherproof cameras and a separate stand alone recorder which you can site in a convenient spot to retrieve the card. No-one is likely to want to pinch just the lens units so can relatively safely be left permanently fitted, plus they are small and unobtrusive.
Another feature I like is the remote button control which will protect and save the current file, so you can do it from the handlebars on the go.
Only downside with many of these breed of Chinese cams is a sometimes flaky performance, freezes/boot fails/dodgy build quality etc.
Someone on the NC forum did a bit of a write up of it here (http://www.nc700.co.uk/index.php?/topic/9931-dashcam-review-innovv-k1-2-channel-motorcycle-dvr/?hl=innovv) , plus there are youtube vids.

Check with your insurance company too. Mine offered discounts on my premium, the amount depended on the make of Dash Cam though. Some of the more expensive ones actually offered less of a saving. After a bit of searching I found that a nextbase would knock of £51! The I then went to Halfords and bought the dash cam for £46 while it was on offer! Happy days! lol
My partner bought a cheap Chinese camera last year for her car in Turkey (you wouldn't believe how they drive over there) and had it pemanently attached to the windscreen. Lovely picture when it worked, but unfortunately, the heat of the summer sun killed it within a week.
The batteries used in them typically don't like the heat. Usually for high temps people use capacitors.

Amazon delivery arrived nice and early at 10.30, so I've spent the morning fitting the camera. Wired to a switched live via the secondary fusebox, all wiring hidden behind the headlining.
The camera does the usual auto record in 1080p, plus, there's an App on my phone to allow me to view the output in real time, review footage and adjust settings. Plus, as it's all via the Dashcam's WiFi, I can download the footage in no time onto the phone!
It sits behind the mirror, so I can barely see it whilst driving. The screen shuts off after 60 seconds.

From the outside, it's near as makes no odds invisible. It just blends into the sensors around the mirror.

I've only had a quick drive out to Tesco, so here's a lovely trip up Hindley high street. Try not to get too depressed, I know its a cesspit!

It's even better in original format before YouTube gets it! As for night vision, I'm on nights tonight, so I'll post some video up tomorrow.
