Hi all,
Im looking into getting 2 or more ADSL lines bonded to give me a faster connection at home, got a few questions if anyone has done it, or looked into it.
1. I know it will be expensive but does anyone have a ballpark?
2. Do you know any specific companies that do it? (Looked at Eclipse and SharedBand)
3. Is the price worth it for the benefits expected? (Currently with sky, 0.75 up, 11 down)
I cant get fibre till the end of 2016 at least, its killing me as I do a lot of online PC gaming, and she loves netflix.
i would be talking to my isp (QOS). thats shocking no matter where you are in the UK unless you are somewhere in the back of the beyond with ageing copper lines that are furred up at the box and are miles long from the switches.

Its not as bad as some, a friend has 5 down and god know what upload.
Mine is ok if im just using it, but if anyone else touches it the latency shoots up
afaik ISPs cant dont anything about speeds if your line cant handle it and I have spoke to them dozens of times regarding frequent disconnects, terrible customer service and no clue what they are doing.
I also had a look at my SNR and its 5.9, so not stupidly high.

I've never tried bonding two connections together, but a long time back I ran two 56k modems at the same time, to increase download speeds.
I took a simple approach - ran all the low latency stuff down one line, and the bulk downloads down the other.
Could you do something similar - get cable and use that for Netflix, and run your gaming over broadband?
Pah, that's nothing

I use a draytek 2860 for just that at work, allows you to load balance over 2 ADSL connections (2 WAN poers on the router), seems to work ok for me there.
Got to say that after a couple of years at home my 76Mbps down form BT is starting to feel slow :P
Although if you want good gaming I'd just go with a 2nd line and keep it to yourself unless you want to go down the route of parcelling up bandwidth to keep the latency down which is hte gaming killer.

Good Point Ethariel, I might just do that...
Spoke to Eclipse and they want the following £99 per line (x2), £99 setup of bonded lines (Includes routers) then they want £15 a month line rental (x2) and £120 a month for unlimited usage!
Thats £300 in setup and £150 a month for Internet!!! Told them id have a think haha
dedicate second line seems a more cost effective choice :)

Oh yes, £49.99 install, £20 a month including line rental :)
God know why I didnt think of that!
yeah, always better using a sledgehammer to crack a nut isn't it :)

Well initially I was thinking about DL speeds but hey, the real gripe is shouting at her indoors to get off the connection cos I'm rubber banding all over the screen... Not what you need in a firefight on DayZ!
;)
Wonder if it's worth checking out some of these offers that providers throw around, if it's only to run Netflix then surely you wouldn't need more than 10meg?

I cant get more than 10/11 meg anyway lol, itll be for Netflix, android boxes, and all WIFI devices (Phones and whatnot). The other line will be a dedicated router to my PC and Xbox one with WIFI switched off.
Plusnet want £49 install and £20ish a month including line rental, the actual BB charge is £2.50 a month unlimited usage.
I like this idea because ill also have some redundancy in my setup too (Providing the issue is with one of my ISPs)
I've got a similar setup at home, one 30 meg feed upstairs to the kids PCs/Xbox/PS4 plus wifi for tablets & phones etc.
Downstairs 150 meg via ethernet to my PC and wireless for everything else
The wireless router downstairs is cloned upstairs via power socket relay, works a treat although I still get the odd issues with lagspikes (Virgin Media)

Yeah my mate gets pretty bad lagspikes with his VM connection, just sits at over 100ms for hours for no reason.
Id love virgin media again but cant get it in this house :(
