View Full Version : which sv
Right so having now passed my mod 2 I can up my search for my sv. I'm looking for a fully faired pointy and prefer the newer black frames but of those are the later twin sparks any better or anything worth looking out for? Was thinking sub 20k ideally too or is mileage not that big a deal?

Do you have a budget, get as new as you can.
I'm going to replace my SV, with another SV :)
I currently have an SK4, which is a great little runner and sounds the dogs danglies!
As shiftin says, set a budget, then see what mileage and condition you can get for the money - looking at the fuel consumption thread in this area it would look like the twin sparks might be a tad thirstier but it doesn't look to be a great deal

The twin sparks should not be thirstier, if anything they should give better fuel economy, I believe they do anyway
I've got a 2011 yzf r125 on 7000k to sell so that plus a bit so £2500 +/- . I would like a fully faired s 2007 if I can in as low mileage and tidy as I can get.

2005 & 2006's had black frames without the emission control setup (twin spark plugs, lambda and catalyst).
Things to look out for are not paying too much for one that's about to need the expensive valve clearance check/adjust done, and generally factor in impending maintenance.
Condition is more important than miles given they'll seemingly do 100K without issue.
Do you like this?

There is also a 2008 naked, black, 15k miles for sale on here @ £2k
But like AlexAdams said, when looking at SVs make sure its either had its valves checked or its not going to need them doing shortly

and The Guru is selling his here... http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=220624

Yes, I should have added a caveat that it could well be that only people who ride their twin plug models hard have posted their fuel figures, and those of us with single plug models ride more slowly - but either way it was a small variance in mpg numbers
Have a 2008 SV650S Sport, grey colour about 6000 mile (need to check actual mileage). The bike is in showroom condition. It has a tail tidy and rear seat cover (Suzuki one). Don't know how to post pictures here but if you are interested e mail me and I will try and post you some pictures. Put £2500 in my hand and it's yours. Not bothered if it sells or not, this is a 3rd bike to me and is not being used very much at all, has a MOT and currently under sworn.
Where are you K1600, Scotland is a long way from me for the guru's as nice as it is.
Oh yeah do I inform my insurance that I now have a full licence on my 125 or would I be better cancelling the policy and restarting if I don't intend riding it. May want to go for a spin before I sort an sv though.
DomP, I am just east of Glasgow. Can assure you it would be worth the journey as this bike is immaculate, never seen bad weather, the fork legs have no chips or flaking paint. It's up to you.
Go on to Facebook and search Jim Wilson and you will see a photo of the bike.

Technically your insurance will be invalid if you don't inform them of a change in licence.
I'm just on the border with south Wales, why are you guys all in Scotland?! ☺I'll have a think about it but this side of Christmas is unlikely though
Not a problem, the bike is not advertised anywhere at the moment.

I must get mine on sale. It's a K8 in Essex but not fully faired.

I had a K9 sport for 3 1/2 years, great bike. If you find a sport, you get full fairings and seat cowl. Should be easily able to find a sub 20k for £2500.
If you want fully faired, buy one with fairings, not easy or cheap to get hold of after, especially the fitting kits.
At 20k, check the rear suspension linkages for wear, mine had started to show at 24k. If I was to get another, would make it an annual job to strip and grease rear linkage. That was the only problem I had with the SV. Suzuki a bit mean with the grease.
Make sure you get a black one, the're the fastest ;-)

near you?
Very near yes! messaged him already
Went to see the sv that S111 mentioned above, very clean except a bit of wear on the left frame from gear changes and the chain looks like it needs tlc. Also the from tyre needs replacing as it's got flats on either side making it almost triangular. 13k too so low miles. Think I might leave a cheeky offer see if he takes it.

Does £2500 seem a fair price for this bike? It needs a new front tyre but is otherwise very tidy

Looks like a nice bike, just remember you have a big service to budget for in 3000 miles. To get a garage to do the valves is about £400.
How easy are the valve clearances to do yourself? I've done them on my yzf which was fiddly.
What do you folk think then? £2500 about right for this bike if it hasn't had the valves done?

I did the valve clearences on mine, not fun but not impossible - its worth noting none of mine needed changing so I havent been through that yet!
Not sure about the price with it needing a new tyre and BIG service pretty soon, its not far off the mark though

2500 is about right. A main dealer valve check is 400 plus shims, it's about 550 if all the shims need doing.
Independent garages are around half that plus parts

Ah thanks, I'm quite happy tinkering with engines so checking and adjusting them doesnt really faze me especially when there are guides and this forum to help out.
Hopefully it won't need adjusting anyway.

Hurry up and buy it before someone else does. I pondered about a bike for a week, booked the day off to go see it. Stupidly only phoned them in the morning, to find out someone had sold it the previous evening.
If you want it get your name on it. Enjoy.
