View Full Version : Insurance question
Having just passed my mod 2 I can't decide if it's worth me continuing my policy on my 125 as they want £65 to alter it to a full licence just for 3 remaining months when I may not even use it due to weather.
Would trading my 125 for an SV 650sand starting a new policy make more sense?
I realise I've discussed this in an earlier thread but just wanted more input

What sort of quotes are you getting for the SV? I'll say one thing, IT'S A COMPLETE PITA having your bike insurance come up for renewal in December. It does me in every year.

I wouldn't bother telling them for the sake of 3 months, they're a bunch of shysters for tricks like that.
I can't remember exactly but it was less than on my 125. I will get a new quote now
Just got a fresh quote from confused fully comp on a k8 social domestic and pleasure use with limited mileage for £107.23.
I think my yzf is £175 for similar useage.

It depends on the fact that you won't have the current years no claims if you cancel / get a new policy halfway through. However as discussed here before. If you sell the YZF make sure you cancel your policy straight away.
If it's crashed with no other cover you are still ****ed even not riding it.
Have you found one you want to buy? If not take your time to get a good one.
Insurance is a right pain in the backside in this circumstance. Not found one yet that isn't a long way away but I've only really started looking seriously since Friday.

Change bike/policy when the current one expires. That way you save all this hassle and get an extra years ncd.
That's what I'm thinking but what if I get an sv in the meantime, can I just switch bikes on my policy easily?

They'll probably charge over the odds to let you do that, you'd have to ask.

Do not mess around with insurance, you can't win, they will do anything to screw you if you're not 100% clean.
You've got a few options:
1) Don't ride.
2) Pay the £65
3) Cancel & Renew, your quote is £107, losing a years NCD is financially worth next to nothing on a policy of that value.
4) Cancel & Renew, but try to find a 10 month policy so renewal would be in October next year if you start now.
I think you're right, cancelling is my best option

I recently went through the same thing, passed my test 3 months ago and bought an SV. Decided to take out a new policy and let the cg125 run its last few months rather than update the policy.
The kicker is as I hadn't finished the year on my cg I do not have any no claims on the new premium and I guess the company will either refuse to add them part way through or charge an alteration fee which for the company I'm with are quite high (robbing *******s).
In hindsight I would of updated my current policy so that at the end I could of renewed with a full years no claims and the ability to barter somewhat as most companies will price match on renewals.
Just reread, looking at the cost of your insurance the no claims is probably going to make little difference for you. I live in Manchester, cheapest I could get was £700 :/
