My current Shoei is 5 years old so probably needs replacing. It's an XR1000 and it's very light and comfortable. A bit noisy, steams up, and has always leaked around the top of the visor.
My xs peahead is quite narrow and oval in shape.
Budget, not an issue, up to £500 as this is a birthday/Christmas gift from Mr LPH. [emoji7]
Any recommendations?

Another Shoei, they'll have a pinlock now which will stop the steaming up and the new visor design seems to have stopped the leaking.
Thats if the new shapes fit.

I do use pinlock at the moment.
The XR1100 was a totally different shape.
Schuberth also don't fit.

If your head is the right shape the Arai Chaser-V is marked down now. £300 you get some change and £100+ off.
Saves enough for a good meal!!

Front flip? Get a neotec maybe, mines don me alright for a couple years of hard use
If you don't want noise though then a flip front may not be the answer, maybe just get the best fixed lid shoei you can based on the deals you can find for the money you have....you cant really go wrong. A couple of good deals here on the X spirit 2 for example: http://www.lidsdirect.co.uk/sale/sale-helmets/shopby/helmetbrand-shoei, plain white x spirit 2 for £300 as long as you don't need a medium size...
Shoei GT Air. Mrs has one. Full face with sun visor

I liked the sun visor on a previous helmet but as I have to wear glasses I've now got a pair of prescription Ray Bans that fit nicely inside a helmet so the sun visor is less important.
I tried a Neotec on last year, it felt a bit heavy and plasticky.
The problem I have is that most shops don't keep xs in stock so it's hard to compare.

Wander up to Bike Stop, Stevenage, they're always very helpful. Give them a call first about sizes in stock for trying on.
You might be pleasantly surprised.

Good advice. That's the trouble when you have to try on sizes too large, there's really no point.

If you can hang on until Feb, then Motorcyle live would be a good time to try on and see more makes than at your average dealer. Doesn't mean you have to buy, but the prices are usually keen at the show.
Only down the road for you too.

I tried that a couple of years ago at the main NEC show. Hardly any dealers had XS, kept telling me there was no demand, totally missing the point clearly there was demand as I wanted one! [emoji35]
I find the bike shows now seem to be mostly populated with new bikes and old stocks of clothing. I checked prices online while there and most of the 'deals' were more expensive than online, even from the same company! I think they try to lull you into thinking you're getting a bargain.
Helmet city is a decent place to try normally have plenty of sizes. The Mrs is XS and they had a few to try on.
Its a bit of a trek for you. But there is a basic zoo next door and the Village of Westerham is very pleasant and not far away worth a stop.

Colchester Kawasaki do have a fair selection.
Unless you can send the mail order stuff back its little point in buying .
I was lucky with my choice of a lazer Monaco.
But lot's say that comes up small .Mine fits fine.
would not recommend the new Shoei GT Air, its carp. worst helmet i have had as regards to the visor steaming up, its pretty much useless in cold temps. the drop down visor is also useless as it steams up and gets dirty very quickly its also not dark enough.
i got a light reactive pinlock which helped with the light but its still not as good as a full dark visor. only reason i got the GT Air was so i would not need to carry a spare visor when out and about.
i will be going back to the Qwest.

I know helmets are a pretty subjective subject and everyone has their favourites but have you considered a Scorpion? They may worth a look and are meant to be more suited to oval-shaped heads. I've got an Exo 500, which I really like. If money's not an issue, have a look at the top of the range Exo 2000. It comes with pinlock, extra tinted visor and has the air pump system to adjust the fit if necessary.
Something that match your tail bike lph

A colleague had one of those, says it's fine until you hit about 73mph, then the peak just rips your head back. (Obviously in the UK I would only ever ride at a maximum of 69.9mph, in Thailand however 120mph is about standard on the motorway).
There is the Caberg Tourmax .
I recall you had Caberg of sorts.
BUT the head pulling off thing is a concern that's put me off getting one .
The reviews don't say how quickly they travel or what screens they're using ( Big difference to who you believe on our tiger forum on screens etc ).

Superb
This helmet looks great, is very comfortable and doesn't suffer from wind catching the visor peak at speed.

New visor's excellent
This helmet is great! I've ridden with Arai's X-D4, and the peak on that vibrated my head tremendously; not so with the Shoei! Even at 70, it's hardly noticeable. The 3D lining really fits my head securely and, as always, Sportsbikeshop delivered everything safely and promptly. Excellent all round!!!
Gareth - Peterborough
Through for the jog to and fro from work id likely keep under 70mph because of the route

One thing I would say as a serial shoei owner, I recently bought a Hjc carbon thing for £130 and I really can't grumble. It's a good full face lid, very light, all removable linings etc and nice finish, a very snug fit for me. I'd check some out too...don't think more money is the only right option.
I've got a cheap as chips KBC for work .
It's the quietest of all my lids and badly shows up my Aria......
