Afternoon peeps.

I have just put a deposit down on a steed to use out here in the sunny deserts of Saudi Arabia. However, as I've never bought a bike/car brand new before I'm looking for any advice what I should be expecting as part of the purchase and collection of my new bike. I'm expecting a fair bit of paperwork relating to the sale, purchase invoice, service book/wallet, warranty information as well as the ownership documentation.

Is there anything else I should expect to get with a brand new bike purchase before I ride away? Is there anything else I should be asking for or trying to get included at this last minute of the deal? I have absolutely no idea what to expect from this point onwards.

I accept things will be slightly different here in Saudi but any experiences are most appreciated. I'm buying from a franchised dealer so I'd still expect a lot of the process to be pretty universal?

For those that are interested - I've bought a Ducati Scrambler (Full Throttle). V-Twin for the win! :D

I can't help with your actual question, but I would love to know how you get on with your new scrambler

Hi mate,

I bought new a few years ago but doubt much has changed.

Along with the usual documents you mentioned you should get a copy of the "pre delivery inspection" checklist, if that is done over there.

If the dealer is decent they should give first years tax (again not sure if applicable) if not try and haggle that in!

Also worth a shot is to try and get a full tank!!

I got a custom seat, in place of the red one that I didn't like, scooped out with a gel pad made to special order, Givi top box and frame fitted at cost price, free delivery, 6 months tax, tank of fuel and got them to pay for and fit a Scottoiler. Plus 2 years interest free credit.

I haggle like a demon, on everything.

Guys, don't forget a tank of fuel for a bike in Saudi is about £2.25. Not really that good a bit of haggling.

Cheers for the info so far.

Petrol just got really expensive here as the government have just put 50% VAT to the cost at the pump, so it's just shot up to 15p a litre! Which makes a full tank just shy of £2 I think.

I managed to blag the sump guard as part of the deal as I'll be doing some light off-roading and 'bondu-bashing' out here, plus it already has the gorgeous Termignonis fitted. Pretty sure there's no vehicle tax out here like the UK but you have to renew your ownership/registrant every year, which I guess is effectively the same thing, I'll ask about that. I'll ask about the PDI paperwork as well. I'm going to see if I can get it in English if it's not already as I intend to bring the bike home to the UK in a couple more years.

Please keep the advice coming.

Just out of curiosity, how much does a 2 wheel camel cost over there compared to the UK,???

I'm still working that one out. My deposit is in its way from my UK a bank to Saudi but my bank (Santander) have been rubbish. They 'don't deal with' Saudi Riyals so my transfer is having to go through a middle party bank so I have no idea what exchange rate I'll get (plus a £25 admin charge). Normally I get a poor rate if I've had to draw money out of my UK account (plus charges), but better with credit card - which wasn't an option at the time. I believe the total cost of my purchase is going to be around the £9,000 mark, which sound expensive, but bearing in mind.........

I don't know what the UK price of the Full Throttle model is. I originally wanted an Icon which was 39,500SR, which is £7290, so about £150-£200 over UK list? I think I got about 1,000SR knocked off due to a slight dealer ****-up, plus I got the sump guard (£100) thrown in so I'm around the same price overall I think.

I have 1 of the first 3 Scramblers coming into the country so I don't really have much room for negotiation, plus I'm a white-boy-infidel so same problem. It was also bloody obvious from the moment I found the dealership I was going to buy one so no poker face to negotiate with either. I don't believe there's much discount on these anywhere in the world given how in-demand they are.

If you meant real camels though - if you hit one on the road with a vehicle, they are valued at 1,000,000SR each (£185,000) - best not to if you can!
