View Full Version : SV650.org trackday 2017? Would it be a go or no-go?

I was just wondering if we where enough people, could we book a trackday with just SV's? And are there enough nut jobs on this forum to make it happen?
Has this been tried before?
Just a brain fart really.

I think it might be an idea to include Triumphs too ;-)

I'm a member of a club that has in the past had their own "trackday". To be more precise what they have done is approach an established organiser and basically booked out an entire session between them. This way you avoid all the problems with insurance and liability, plus it's down to each individual to pay their way. Worse case scenario there isn't quite enough of you to have complete exclusivity, but it's surprising how easy it is to gang up on an interloper should their behaviour not fit in with the group etiquette..... :)

And where would it end, with hardleys? To fill up maybe, but the thought was SVs only. Maybe I'm just funny in the head, but I thought this was a SV forum :joker:

Thats a very good idea, good thinking.

It would be great to do an Org's track day but limiting it to people who still own a SV650s that want to do a track day might mean you don't get the numbers. Be interested to see if you could though as a one model group could look pretty cool.
I'm pretty sure there have been a couple Org events in the past at Lyddon and Brands. I've been on a few with fellow Org'ers but not as a group booking at Silverstone, Snetterton and Lydden. We are going back a bit now though, maybe 2004-2008.

I was on a track day where one of the sessions was for BMW owners club only, so having an Org one could work the same way. As Red H says, it would simplify the insurance and other things like marshalls, first aiders etc.
The trouble i can see is getting us all together in one place on the same day.
But it would be fun :-)

We managed to get about a dozen or so of us at Brands a few years back. As I recall we weren't all in the same group as there is a huge range of abilities across the Org but we were all in adjoining garages and it was a bit of a laugh. A sort of .Org day out at the races.... This way newbies can get a bit of support and encouragement from the more experienced track riders and those not normally inclined to get on the track made the effort to do so.
Lydden, or even Brands indy are good tracks to pick because they happens to suit SV's quite well, but they're right in one corner of the country, Caldwell is another but again quite a long trip for some. Mallory Park is probably the most central circuit to go for, fairly easy to learn to. I'd probably avoid anywhere like Silverstone or Donnington because they are pretty much flat out on an SV and not that spectator friendly.

I don't own an SV so it'd have to be on another bike...
It would also depend on what track... I propose the best track for Sv's in the UK would be Knockhill.... ;)
They do slide into the hairpin very nicely there...

Rockingham National is another good circuit. Pretty central and a mix of left and right bends. The National doesn't use the oval so would suit SVs and it is a much nicer track.

What would be the best way, ask to have a full org group, or book 20-30 spots divided on the 3 groups?

Oh and another thing, to have a bbq and a cold one the evening before, I'm guessing that a sunday trackday would be best, drive up/down/across on the saturday and spend the night at the track?? Or would people take the friday off??
+1 Cadwell !! Wouldnt you be best booking a whole org group? Surely peeps on here would show a bit of respect on track even if there were different abilities in the same group
The main thing will be getting people to commit, wave some money about, so the financial commitment doesnt land on one person.
Is it worth giving someone a call like msv, telling them what your planning, possibly fixing a date at the weekend in the future and then seeing what take up is?
Id be in on a sv

Spot on, and Cadwell's a brilliant track even if you haven't a clue where you are going, which is most of the time if you haven't been there before!
Some people are clearly going to be faster than the average, but there is no reason whey they can't also book themselves into another group as well if they really need their fix.
The camping is an excellent idea, you need to check with Cadwell because some circuits won't let people stay on site overnight. Also see what facilities they have, there are circuits with simple catering facilities and if you tell them you've 30 people staying overnight they may lay on an evening meal and breakfast for you....
All it needs is for someone to take the bull by the horns so to speak and name a date. People will either try and make it or they won't. With something this size I can tell you from experience it's not worth offering several options and seeing which one most can make, it just becomes incredibly complicated. Just pick a date with plenty of notice and try and avoid the traditional holiday season.
Looking forward to it already......
Edit:, sorry I meant to ask if I missed the bit that explained why we are waiting until 2017...... Lets have a dry run this year!
+ 1 this year

Because I can't commit to it this year
Anyone feel like they want to give it a go this year is welcome to it.
And seeing that it's already March, most trackdays dates should be booked and could even have people booked in all groups, so a org group only group could be a no-go.
People commit when they book, it's pay to play, like it used to be(last uk trackday I did was in 2009)?

Yeah Cadwell has reasonable amenities for camping and there is a canteen / bar which is usually open on the evening for race weekends but I'm not sure on Trackday weekends.
No garages though so need a genny for ya warmers and a strong gazebo etc if you want shelter.

The BMW club do Cadwell and Snet with MSV, iirc they register interest with MSV who provisionally hold the day for so long, this lets them get numbers in, which also impacts the price paid...Usually this is on a Monday. They book the whole day and then have groups depending on how many sign up. Last time we had two groups and longer sessions rather than 3 groups as there weren't enough inters/adv to split so they were lumped together.
It works well every time I've been.

Ste, are the BMW days the ones organised by Robert Bensley? I think the rule is road bikes only, preferably ridden to the track (trailers/vans cannot park in front of pits), no tyre warmers etc? I've heard they are well run.

Ok then folks, how about trying to sort something for this year. The problem is going to be getting a weekend trackday at Cadwell later in the year. Can all the people interested make a weekday with enough notice?
For example No Limits are there on the 30th and 31st August which is a Tuesday/Wednesday. They are running trackdays both days plus an evening one on the Tuesday which means if you are really keen you could get out for a warm up then...... It also means there is likely to be a presence at the circuit overnight so easier for us to stay? I've no idea how much space they still have but if enough people are interested I can give them a call and find out.
What are peoples thoughts?

Depending if this is a SV exclusive event or not, I could probably get a day off. Have to be honest, 31st Aug is my wedding anniversary but that shouldn't affect any arrangements for you guys. Will hopefully do a couple in the summer and will post in the TD section

Balky, yes they are and they are very well run (I'm even allowed to go on the street trip). They are road only but some are trailored and there have been some track bikes, but I think it depends on which group you are going in and if you speak to him beforehand.
They group you based on honest answers and I have seen then giving a telling off to people who are being a bit daft, including instructors. Otherwise there are never any real issues, maybe 2 red flag sessions in the last few years.

OK, well I've just booked myself onto the No Limits day at Cadwell on the 31st August. The fine young lady I spoke to says they have lots of space in all groups at the moment so don't be shy... you know you want to!
She also confirms that camping overnight 30/31st is not an issue, and the bar/cafe may even be open.
With regard to bikes I see no reason why it should just be SV's. Personally I'm going to take my SV, my GSXR and one other to be decided nearer the time so lets make it a bit of an .Org ride out (in small circles) whatever you currently ride with a social evening thrown in for good measure.
See you guys (and girls?) there.....
Oh, I've put myself in the intermediate group, we'll see how long I last before they chuck me out...:)

I picked that date because it's a double header so if you're going a fair distance like I am you can make two days of it if you want. 31st August is also the last day of the school summer holidays so folk with kids should be back from their summer trips, and those without kids would't have been able to book a holiday.....! And it's August, we're bound to have nice weather aren't we.....!
Will it be sv only,if not my son will ride as well LL

I'm just wondering if it's worth starting a new dedicated thread for this trackday or getting the title changed to reflect the date (assuming we want to use the 31st of August). With 21 people expressing an interest we could potentially have quite a good time but they will need to book sooner rather than later and at the moment there's a chance people might not twig a date has been proposed.

30th/31st August this year. It's a Tuesday/Wednesday. There's a trackday both days and an evening one on the Tuesday. My plan is to try and get there Tuesday afternoon and I may ride in the evening depending on how I feel, camp overnight before doing the track on the Wednesday, and then depending on what's happening either stay another night or have a slow drive home.

Yes, next year:D
Doing a raceweekend on national level over here, it's to expensive to justify a trip over to the uk in the same year. Need to figure out how to include the wife and kids, then I could do more than one trackday in the uk next year :D
Maybe get my aunt in Shrewsbury to help plan it.
What's the set up then,is it up to everyone to book up individual or is someone to collect names and direct us through the whole set up as a block booking ???

Not sure what the arrangement is with the one on the 21st May. With regard to the 31st August date then you have to contact No Limits and book your own place.
