View Full Version : Clearing crap from the filler cap area
The SV lives outdoors and has not been ridden much over the winter due to a) the weather and b) I had a badly infected foot for 2 months and couldn't change gear. After 3 months, I finally needed to put fuel in and found that a green gunge had appeared around the filler. I need to clean it out so can anyone suggest the method and any do's and don't's for doing this.
Stiff bristled brush and warm soapy water? Blow it out with an airline? steam cleaner?
I wouldnt recommend pressure washing.
unlock the filler cap, undo the three bolts that hold it on (two are false) take off and clean with oily rag. what ever you do dont try and brush it out unless you put a rag in the filler neck. while you are there blow out the breather hose and the overflow/water drain. use a bicycle pump. then if you have some squirt in the holes of the hoses acf-50, this stops the metal spigot rusting.
Thank Bibio. My job for the weekend. I'm pretty useless at mechanical things, but I think I can cope with that.
