View Full Version : Chain/Wheel alignement
This seems like a really daft question but I'm suffering from what feels like a wobble in my back wheel at the minute.
Rear wheel bearings are fine they were replaced less than 2k ago and there's no play in the wheel, sprocket carrier or swingarm.
I've checked everything is tight and the chain is properly adjusted but just because the chain adjustment plates line up to the same spot on both sides of the swing arm does this also mean the wheel will be aligned properly?
I'm using Bibios adjuster plates so they're accurate unlike the OEM rubbish.
the only other thing I can think of that might be causing it is the rear wheel being unbalanced.

Have you checked the tyre pressures, in particular the front? Is your back shock still ok?
The easiest way to check rear wheel alignment is no hands. Ride along at say 30mph, shut off the throttle, and take your hands off the bars. If it consistently goes to one side then the back wheel is pointing that way i.e. if it wanders left then the left side of the spindle is too far back, so add half a turn to the right hand one.

Yep tyre pressures are spot on all round, rear shock was a brand new Hagon fitted less than 9k ago and visually all seems fine.
There doesn't seem to be any wandering when I try the no hands method, but it definitely feels unstable if I try to get any real lean through a corner or when I pull away it's almost like it's missing some power due to the wheel moving side to side.
I keep thinking it may now just all be in my head but I'm almost certain it's happening.
I've got it booked into the garage for next Monday for them to check the balancing and see if they can spot anything but if I can get it sorted myself over the weekend then it's more money to spend on fuel!

when a tyre gets worn it starts to crown and you get a transition point between the crown and the good tread where there is a steep angle.
Nope it's a Angel GT with less than 2k miles on it, only just about looking worn in to be honest.
Just check the tyre is seated correctly on the wheel or any blebs in the walls of the tyre !!!

Might be worth taking both wheels to get them balanced. Front forks OK?
Yep can't think why they wouldn't be it's not been dropped or had any hits since i started to notice it. I'll get the garage to check both when it goes in.

Check the front out too.Wear in the steering head bearings can cause odd wobbles that seem to be from the rear.
Hadn't even considered that cheers I'll add it to my list to check.
One bad thing about getting no paperwork with the bike is I don't have a clue if or when anything was last replaced. Although I've slowly made my way through most stuff myself so I know it's been done.
