Removed my front sprocket today went and purchased a super long breaker especially for the task...

When it came to removing it was so loose I could twist with just the weight of the bar after about 2 rotations. I think the bent washer was the only thing stopping it coming off while riding...

How close was I to having a fatal accident and is this normal for the front sprocket nut to come so loose?

Certainly could have been nasty and catastrophic for you or your engine if the chain had snapped.

I don't know exactly how close you were to having a booboo but when I removed mine last it wouldn't budge with a 760mm iirc breaker bar and 100kg of me bouncing on the other end.

It took a couple of goes with an impact driver to break the threadlock and get it moving.

Acetone (nail varnish remover :D) is good for breaking down threadlock before using the impact driver
