I'm thinking about getting myself a different bike. The Street is amazing and I love her but she is getting a little bit old and is starting to show her age.

I honestly don't know where I want to go next, but 1000cc IL4 sports bikes will not even be contemplated as in my mind they are useless on the public road, I stopped riding a sports 600 because I was riding WAY too fast (not that it wasn't fun)

The gaffer has told me that if I do look at getting something different I've to put less precedent on pillion provision.

Things I'd like;

Handling - something equal to the Street if not better.
Decent tank range - 100 miles to reserve is not enough.
Decent comfort - I'd like to be able to ride the whole day without breaking myself

Things I don't care for;

Top speed - when am I ever really going to use it
High seat heights - I'm a shorty

I'm really quite stuck, and as ever my heart says go pay way too much an Aprilia RS250 mk2, even though my head says don't be a nugget.

So on you go give me some ideas.

I like the Tracer but it was too big and heavy for me. I'd need your lowering kit Lance to be comfortable on it, I don't like the standard MT09 its ugly in my mind.

who cares about looks. lets face it if people were to buy the SV on looks they would not sell any.. lol

its a hard one chucca, i have searched for a new bike but the only thing that appeals to me is the stripple r and the mt-09. i want a new bike but i'm loathed to let go of the SV as it fits, add in the 60mpg and its a hard choice. like me your vertically challenged but not as bad so you dont have to lower too much. Thruxton R?

the new stripple r is out the box good. the MT-09 needs suspension work but the price difference will make up for it easily. the new MT-09 has ABS and traction control with a revised map on the throttle, with an ECU flash its supposed to be even better.

what about the xsr 900 version if the MT09?
The silver one looks very nice in the flesh. Customisable and the fuelling and suspension is reportedly better than the 09.

Hmm, there's food for thought Mr Smith, I looked at a CB1000R a few years ago. Might have a look at a big nekid bike... :-D

How about XSR700 (sv-ish middleweight with retro looks) or XSR900 (fast version). I had a test ride on the XSR700 and it felt a bit wanting compared to my Street Triple. The 900 is reckoned to be a great bike.

Or Triumph Street Twin (if you don't need to go too fast) or T120? At the very least, it's an excuse to test ride lots of different bikes ;)

problem with the big nakeds is they are not an SS with the fairings taken off and if you have a good look at the suspension its cheeped out which = less pace round the twisty stuff then add in the extra weight and no wind protection. going down that route i would personally prefer to get something like a GSXR750 with a comfort kit as you get all the SS goodies with a sit up position.

Hang out for the 765 r or the road version of the tracer.
I like the MT 09. It's got enough poke and cheap enough to sort out the crap suspension and seat.

MT-09
Bike new 7,500
Suspension work 1,200
ECU flash 200 (to gain full power)
Seat work 150

£9,050 so it works out more than a new stripple r at £8,200. i thought it was less. hhhmmmmm. only gain from mt-09 is more power and traction control.

The Tracer that I tried, the engine Had a fair bit more usable torque and power than the Street. But when I got back on the Triumph the overall size of the bike made a real difference for me. I so prefer to ride something that doesn't feel so big, small light and chuckable is my thing.

Maybe I'm a little strange but I find it sad that companies seem to think the way to improve a bike is give it a bigger engine. Ducati are the prime example their mid class Sports bike now has a bigger engine than their top flight bike did a few years ago... Do we REALLY need more POWER?

I test rode the new SV650. Miles better than my K3 and only £5000 or £5500 for the ABS version.

I get where you are coming from.
I chopped in my gen 2 Daytona 675 for the more relaxed riding position of the XRx tiger.
It does feel like a tank compared to the 675.
Do I miss the power of it?
Yes every time I do an overtake.
I struggle to do stand turns with the Tiger aswell!

Have a look at Honda's AT (2016).
Awesome ride when I tried one. One non-stop grin, thoroughly loved it - even though I am way to short for it. Instantly put the fun factor back into a ride.

There was a comment about IL4 sports bikes and speed. Nakeds are different. It's a very usable and tractable, well geared V4 head banger, naked with an upright riding position, amazing fun at sub 100 mph speeds, but get much over that and you know you are doing it as it's starting to rip your arms and head off. Fantastic handling too, it'll turn on a sixpence. It's not like the faired RSV4 where you need to be over 100mph before anything makes sense. Huge, huge, mental fun, silly fast acceleration without having to reach silly fast top speeds, but don't switch the electronics off as sometimes it feels like that's the only thing keeping it connected to the road.

Having spent many miles riding on Dean's tail over the years (ohh err missus) I think he'd love a supernaked.

130bhp CB1000R would be a good alternative, I imagine that would be a bit softer and more relaxed, but I haven't ridden one of those so can't comment.

We shall see, I get the Street back tomorrow after it was taken too bits by Ducati Glasgow (new Triumph dealer in Scotland) and hopefully fixed.

I may have a talk to them about test rides while I'm in, I quite fancy a shot on the 848 Streetfighter. Just for giggles.

Burger, just checked their website they don't have one for a test ride...

I, surprisingly, disagree with this statement! 1000cc bikes are awesome, mainly as I put mine in second gear and then don't have to ever change up or down. Makes life simpler!

Oh, and buy a Panagale, then let me err, "borrow" it!

I've got the Daytona 955i back on the road for the first time in 2 years. It is resulting in speeds that I would never get near on my Tiger Sport. There's just something about sportsbikes that put this little devil on your shoulder that says "Go on, twist the throttle, you know it's fun!".

I felt the same way and on my 929 Fireblade it was exactly that. When I got my 2013 Blade it was so fast I don't think I ever saw the shift light come on. Maybe once in first but even then I was doing 95mph. I got bored of just leaving the bike in 5th on a twisty and never seeing it go over a quarter of the way around the rev counter.

Now that is my idea of hell, I like to be revving an engine, its why I kinda of miss the SV, you could rag the life out of it and it wouldn't be going 'that' quick.

I'm hoping to get out on an MT10 soon. Supposed to be an awesome bike and the cheapest in it's class. It also has some nice touring accessories available.

Pretty sure they'll bring out an MT10 Tracer next year though so if I like it I'll hold out till then.

I'm finding myself wanting to steal the girlfriend's GSR750 more and more recently. That has the perfect amount of power for a road bike and handles reasonably well. Looks nice too.

Well I get the Street back Saturday (its ready now but I can't get to it)

I'll see what I can get a shot on at the showroom. I might even give reports on them after I've had a shot...
