If I do get another bike it will live at least some of the time at mine where I don't have a garage. I'm not overly worried about this as I live in a nice area and have off road storage. However, I have two choices about storage and not sure what would be better:
1. Behind a fence and locked gate. Fence is 10ft ish but you can see through. Problem is there is nothing secure to lock to bike to, including the fence itself, a ground anchor isn't an option and if someone did scale the fence they could open the gate without a key.
2. The outside of the fence but chained to a lamppost in the private carpark.
Both would have disc locks on and, as I say, quiet area, no thoroughfare etc.
What would you do?

Personally I'd prefer it behind a fence and gate.
No wall to put a ground anchor into? You could fill a planter or big plastic barrel with concrete and use it as an anchor.
Lamp post would be good as the bike is secured but cover it up and get a decent chain from Almax or securityforbikes.
I live in a quiet area with a sort of courtyard out front with no vehicle access.
Didn't stop 2 thieving so and so's from nicking a bike off my front garden! I actually ran after them just as they'd put it in the back of an estate car, nearly killed one of my neighbours as she was crossing the road in front of them
I would suggest that behind a fence and locked gate is better, preferably get a cover and go with yoko's plant pot plan to give yourself something to chain it to
Best of luck with whatever you decide, hope it's safe

Yeah I would go with the behind the fence option mate, I've a one for thinking out of sight out of mind so I would put a bike cover over it also, I would use an Oxford screamer disc lock and I think the idea mentioned about about a plant pot filled with concrete is a good idea so you've got something to anchor too or you could do what I do and chain the rear wheel up against the swing arm so it can't be rolled away, I know it could be lifted but would take more that one person to lift it
Best of luck mate

Thanks for the thoughts. Problem is that behind the fence is every bit as visible but I think I'll go that way with a planter. Either way it will have an alarmed disc lock and chain as a minimum.
