View Full Version : Wemoto Aftermarket Cables - Any Good?
Has anyone purchased the Slinky Glide pattern cables from Wemoto - if so, what do you think of the quality?
I'm in the process of raising the clip ons on my curvy SV650S using Danmoto 3d adjustable clip ons. I could get away without longer cables but that would mean compromising the riding position - ie more comfortable than standard but not the best position available with those bars.

I bought a Clutch cable off them the other week, came next day, Quality is perfect nice and easy smooth operation
Thanks - that was what I was hoping. Anyone else purchased throttle or choke cables from Wemoto.

As I type I am waiting for a call from Venhill Engineering to pay for my new clutch cable. I decided to go custom because what I found is that the cable length is critically important and that I was better off disconnecting the engine end of my original clutch cable and getting the routing dead right at the lever end then measuring the extra length of cable required to join it to the engine it came in at 3" for my set up of Renthal ultra-low road bars. A naked cable was 6" longer which gave me an embarrassment of cable that could not be lost anywhere.
If the WeMoto cable is dead on for your set-up, you are really lucky as Venhill cables are 'ouch' expensive.
The Wemoto website says their naked clutch cable, for curvy, is only about 5cm longer than a S model one. I've still got my old standard clutch cable, which I replaced a couple of years back, so I'll measure it and compare it with the Wemoto website quoted lengths.

Sounds like it will be good.

I think I'll give them a try. The choke and throttle cables are just over a third of the cost of genuine Suzuki and the clutch cable is less than half the cost of genuine Suzuki - enough to make me think they are worth a gamble.

You pointy or curvy? i was going to change the choke and throttles on my curvy then when I couldn't get the expansion tank out, I thought screw it, the clutch is the important one, the others are close!

It's a curvy (2001). Ironically with my set up its the choke and throttle cables that are on the limit, I could just about get away with the standard clutch cable, but longer would be better.

Have you tried running them behind the fork tubes instead of in front? If you put helicopter tape where they touch, it works.

On my set up they rub the top yoke if I try to run them behind the fork tubes.

I'm the same as Blapper, did a bar conversion with Renthal Ultra low bars.
The choke cables fits if put behind the fork tubes. Mine have a bit of helicopter tape on the fork tube, and fairing where it touches. I needed to replace my throttle cables too, a bit of a pig job - but with patience it is easy enough.
What I did for the top cable was cable tie the throttle open to the other side of the frame, slipped in the cable, and released and it took all of 5 minutes!
I've kept the adjustable clip ons narrow, though not quite as narrow as standard, so probably not quite as wide as bars. The cable routing options are probably affected by this so I think longer cables are the best way to go. I wanted to keep a sporty look but improve comfort and I think this is a good compromise for me. I didn't want to spend a fortune on a bike I may not keep, but even after buying the Danmoto clip ons and a set of cables in total I have spent less than half the price of an ABM top yoke and bars.
I received my cables from Wemoto on Wednesday, so pretty quick service. At a quick glance they looked ok but on closer inspection I was not happy with the clutch cable. The preformed bend at the handlebar lever end does not have a low friction plastic liner like the genuine Suzuki part does and the inner cable felt rough when I pushed it through - what a pity for the sake of a few pence worth of plastic liner. The rest of the cable construction was of very good quality, so I am more hopeful for the other cables. I have decided to make a hybrid cable out of the Suzuki bend and the rest of the Wemoto clutch cable.

Did it measure at 5cm longer as described?

Yes it did.
The metal bend on the slinky glide clutch cables also rusts unlike the OEM ones. I've taken to giving mine a thin smear of grease every couple of weeks to stop it getting any worse until I get round to fitting the OEM cable I've got in the shed.
I'm going to answer my own original question here, i.e. are Wemoto after market Slinky Glide cables any good? Sadly my answer is "not really". I have already mentioned my disappointment with the clutch cable but I'm afraid it gets worse with the choke cable assembly. Firstly the preformed radius ends that go into the, what the Suzuki parts fiche calls, guide holder don't fit. The Suzuki preformed radius ends are 5.75mm dia and the Slinky Glide ones I was supplied with were 6.1mm at the end. The guide holder has a recess of 6.0 mm dia so they won't fit unless you drill the guide holder out a little larger. Next problem. Whilst fitting the choke plungers (a fiddly job) the cable splitter box, which splits the cable from the single cable at the handlebar into two for the front and rear choke plungers, cracks with very little strain on it - I wondered why it was supplied with some shrink sleeve on it (but unfortunately not enough!). I am quite skilled at removing and replacing the carb's, having done it quite a few times, and have never had any problem with the genuine Suzuki splitter box. At last some good news - the throttle cables both fitted ok and seem good quality.
Wezmoto (and I assume you mean Wezmoto, rather than some incredibly similarly named company) make great brake and clutch cables. I had them on my previous SV1000 and they fit perfect and looked trick.

No I definitely mean Wemoto, as in Wemoto.com. They have a large range of service parts and accessories for bikes at reasonable prices but, as I found, sometimes (but not always) the price reflects the quality. Your Wezmoto gear looks good. I think it is good that we share our buying experience on the forum, as we know where to go for the best deals. I have mentioned good service from other company's in the past and even been accused of being linked to them in some way! You can't please everyone.

Wezmoto no thanks I tried them went back to Goodridge.
NedSVS have you contacted Wemoto about your problems? I have dealt with them many times and they are always very helpful.
Well, you learn something new everyday!
So in that case, I recommend Wezmoto. Great stuff at a decent price, the chap who does it is a bit...errrrr...in requirement of absolute granular detail (multiple times), shall we say, but he always gets there in the end if you need something out of the ordinary.

I haven't bothered contacting Wemoto, although I'm pretty sure they would offer me a refund if I did, I've just modified what they sent me - but my point is I shouldn't have to be doing this and I suspect all their stock of these parts would be the same, so no point in asking for an exchange either.

Worth giving them a heads up though or else they'll never know they're sending out stuff that needs fettling before it works

Cables...lines...tubes with goop in them...
Semantics.

I've sent them an email about the disappointing quality - I'll let you know what they have to say about it.
I've heard back from Wemoto regarding the poor quality of the Slinky Glide cables I purchased from them and they have said they will forward my comments to the manufacturer. They have also refunded the cost of the choke cable, even though I did not request a refund, so at least the customer service is good.
