View Full Version : Am I being unreasonable?

I have a Glacier white SV650A L7 with Vigor blue wheels. The rear wheel got scratched during a tyre change (by me, probably). No problem I'll research the paint code and pick up some touch up paint.

I eventually track down the paint code: YLY Vigor blue, I even find the part number of a touch up "stick" 15-1978-YLY.

One dealer tells me you cannot order (touch up?) paint from Suzuki anymore another dealer tells me that the colour is discontinued (I have heard about short shelf lives but it's a 2017 model).

Currently, I've emailed 4 (motorcycle) paint suppliers, one has said "no", the others haven't responded yet.

I should add that I can purchase the paint I want on German/Dutch and Greek(?) sites via ebay or Amazon but not on the UK sites. Anyone speak German? I took it at school but that was many years ago. Vielleicht Ich werde die Farbe aus Deutschland kaufen.

I don't see why this is proving so hard, am I being unreasonable in expecting Suzuki to carry touch up paint for new bikes?

No you are not being unreasonable expecting to be able to get spares for a current model. In fact I'm pretty sure there is a legal requirement to be able to supply spares for some years after a model is discontinued. The question is, is paint a spare part?
Have you tried fowlers online spare parts search? I suspect "Suzuki non longer sell them" is code for It will take more than 30 seconds to make the sale so I can't be a***d.

Fowlers are normally pretty good I'd wait and see what they say.

Apparently you can't ship flammable liquids like you used to be so companies like http://www.rsbikepaint.com/en-gb/colours.php have popped up. got touch up for mine there.

You can ship them still.
It's a load of tosh, same with lithium ion batteries

People can't be arsed with the paperwork. I have them all the time

This is exactly why I went for black rims on my AL7, the only coloured thing is the tank (Blue and white) - they probably don't have paint for that either, but if it got damaged I would probably have it sprayed solid red anyway (I wanted the red one anyway, it was all over the internet, but the dealer said red not available in UK, but he was surprised at how many people had asked for red - DOOOOHHHH Suzuki - it wasn't a deal-breaker for me, but may have been for some people).

I don't think you are being unreasonable in expecting Suzuki to supply touch-up paint for a brand new bike - a letter to Suzuki UK head office would seem to be required. I would address it to the service manager or someone high up, you tend to get something done if you involve someone high up, the minions in dealerships just block and mess you around.

according to Fowlers, Suzuki only offered touch up paints for wheels for a short time and then discontinued them, so you have to source your paint from a 3rd party paint supplier for wheels. I didn't ask about tanks etc, but those colours seem easy to get anyway.

i would let head office know know anyway, dealers do try to fob people off, the closer to the top of the tree you contact the more likely they are to do something - dealers are supposed to let big guys know when customers are not happy, but I doubt that they do most of the time so the people that matter carry on in a vacuum thinking everything is fine - shielded from customer feedback (too much paperwork for dealers LOL)
