View Full Version : Best place to sell a bike ?
Any tips on the best place and way to sell my new model SV on a 16 plate. I've only managed to put a little over 600 miles on it due to ongoing back and pelvic issues and I've been advised I may need an operation. Any useful tips would be appreciated.

That is a real shame and so unfortunate. There are probably three realistic options, non are ideal but here we go. Least favourite would be the sell to a dealer, that would result in a real "spanking" for many reasons but probably looking @ around 3k but worth a couple of calls. Ebay where a good quality ad. may shade just under 4k (the quality of the ad is everything on here) and my preferred option if practical and the medical problem may be resolved in a reasonable timescale would be to store. If you really want to be insulted then there is always "Webuyanybike". If possible do nothing in haste as the situation hopefully may look brighter and if not prices should strengthen as spring approaches and new prices rise as the pound falls in the coming months. As I say such a shame but good luck.
Geoff.

Thanks Geoff, yes I'm expecting to be insulted, have already asked a dealer, lol. Storing was an option but specialist at the hospital reckons 18 months, it's already been stored through the winter. I'll probably go down the eBay route then and as you say about 4K, not bad for a new bike with a brand new fuel exhaust ;) thanks mate, will have another chat to the mrs later.
Never sell to a dealer unless you are really desperate, you will get your pants pulled down, some of them even charge you a fee to sell it to them!
I've had my best results selling on ebay using the classified ad listing. It's £15 and the ad stays up for a month. You don't have the hassle of the auction winner haggling about the price when they come to collect and the stupid "Wots By is now price m8" messages are reduced.

Don't laugh, but I sold a bike putting a nice photo up on a postcard on the customer notice board at my local Sainsbury!
May be worth letting the local training school know as the SV is a good first bike.

I did enquire at a dealer, he did pull my pants down, lol. I was expecting it though. Yes it looks like eBay and as you say a classified listing, might just do it for 14 days though.

Gumtree is free to list stuff on but perhaps not as well known as that auction site.
As a guide for pricing, there's a dealer got three used ones at four grand each on Biketrader.
Its a pity you didn't post this last week :( because I would have taken it off your hands and I can't now because on Thursday I put down a deposit on a red one for delivery in March.

Yes I've seen a few advertised, most seem to be about 4.5k, 4.7 k used. Mines just been run in and serviced and has a brand new fuel black stainless and carbon fibre can, original too, also warrantied for 3 years. Shame you've already but down for one. I'll be happy with 4K for mine so losing quite a bit. Hope you enjoy yours.
Obviously put a post on here too. I sold my SV on here last week. Granted I ended up with another one which I am also trying to sell but it's nice so I might keep it :)
