I've just signed up for this. Running 100 kilometres with my running pal Mabel, between now and October to raise at least £100 for Alzheimer's Research. In truth we'll be running a lot more than 100 kilometres, and I'd like to raise rather more than £100.

It's a good cause, my grandfathers got vascular dementia not Alzheimer's, but it's horrific disease. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement. Sorry to hear about your grandfather. It is a horrible disease in all its forms.

Great cause, much neglected and misunderstood.
Have to say your dog stole the picture though.......... very handsome beast
Do they use kilometres in Wales now ?

Ha ha, she's better looking than me, that's for sure!
I'm old enough to have dealt exclusively with imperial measurements at school but I'm happy enough to use metric where needed, particularly when distance is involved.

Huge thanks to all you kind Orgers who have donated to this cause. I've hit the £100 mark already, considerably sooner than I expected!
What a brilliant bunch you are!

I think running uphill ought to count double - it's bl@@dy hard work

LOL! No option round here - have you looked at the elevation profiles for my local trail runs?

Just over 120kms run now. Good run of 7 miles today, but I think I've knackered my achilles tendon. I'm proper hobbling at the moment. :-(

Well this is bloody frustrating. Not been able to run since 16th June because of this achilles tendon. :-(

But Mabel's ok, right?

She's good thanks Trev, just doesn't understand the need for shorter slower walks!
I did try a few yards of gentle jogging yesterday but it was too painful and I really don't want to make the condition worse. The general consensus among runners is that it takes quite a while for achilles tendons to mend and running again to soon can cause more serious, and possibly long term damage.

Look after your legs mate, you only get one pair to last you for a long, long time.

It's called getting old Gary :)
I'm suffering with left leg problems which are really annoying me now, as my usual stretches haven't resolved the tightness and soreness.
Might need to do some pain on the foam roller :(
You have my sympathy.

Thanks guys. I'm finding it hard not to be able to run. The running is good for me mentally as well as physically. I'll just have to be patient I guess.

First run since mid June. Very gentle jog round this lovely route. Walked up the steeper sections and the achilles tendon is feeling good. :-)
A couple of weeks is needed at a similarly gentle pace I think.
Back to the proper fundraising for this great cause. My thanks to all who have donated so far. Any and all donations towards this would be very gratefully received.

Been back to the regular running for a while now and clocking up the miles. Heading into the final month of this fundraiser for dementia research. Huge thanks to all those of you who have donated so far. Total stands at £185.70. Be great to get that over the £200 mark, so if you haven't already, I'd be hugely grateful if you'd consider making a donation.
Ta!

Final couple of weeks of my Running Down Dementia fundraising challenge (https://runningdowndementia2017.everydayhero.com/uk/gary) and I'm just £15 short of my £200 target. I'd be really chuffed if someone could make the donation and get me over the line.
Another 5.8 miles in the rain and mud for me and Mabel today. Mabel is currently stacked out in front of the stove! Hope the weather is better on Sunday as I have a 10 mile run with a group of other canicrossers in the afternoon. Be good to have dry weather for it. 10 miles in Sunday will put me at just under 200 miles in total since May. I had hoped to be nearer 400 miles but an achilles tendon problem and a recent back injury stopped me running for around 8 or 9 weeks.
I shall make the most of the next couple of weeks!

Bloody hell Gary, there's some folk with short arms and deep pockets.
Keep going mate
My workplace has chosen a dementia charity as it's charity to support for the next two years, so I'll be doing something to support that.

Well done Mabel (and Gary). Considering your physical niggles you've done a cracking job. And well done to the other sponsors - it's a worthy cause.
Hope your back gets better soon Mav.
