I'm a slow rider. I've gained speeding tickets in two countries but these days I'm content to meander around Lincolnshire's empty country lanes. My shortest journey is 25 miles with negligible town traffic.
I have just filled up my AL7 SV, it had just started flashing the petrol pump icon at 197 miles covered and it was predicting I had 48 miles to go before being empty. The result: 80.7 mpg, the previous 3 tankfulls were 79/79/80 so it's not a fluke. (I was getting mid 70's mpg over the winter).
I've owned 2 curvy 650S models and I thought they were economical at 65-68 mpg, I wonder what an AL7 would do with a fairing?
I've now had the bike for one year/8200 miles and I still think it is one of the best value for money bikes on the market (I may be biased). I frequent Willingham Woods (200 + bikes on a sunny Sunday) and, over the last year, I've not seen another AL7 (but I've only seen 2 MT07s - I guess small bikes aren't popular in Lincs).
i think your doing your calculations wrong.
245miles (197+48) / 14.5l (full tank) = 16.9mpl x 4.546 (UK Gal) = 76.8mpg
still impressive mpg :-)

I thought the tank was 18 litre on the pointy.
L7 so it will be new shape SV
My calculations: I was in error when I wrote 197 miles with 48 remaining. When I filled up it was 200 miles with 45 remaining. I only count the miles I have covered, not the prediction from the bike and go full tank to full tank from the same pump, same petrol station. If you're picky the temperature would be different so the volume occupied would vary and thus throw off the calculation.
I filled up with 11.26 litres and I use 1 litre = 0.22 gallon (I know it's really 0.219969). 11.26 x 0.22 = 2.4772
200/2.4772 = 80.73 mpg.
So, still 80.7 mpg.
your correct with 200 miles for 11.26lt = 80.8mpg (17.76mpl)
the best i have done on my pointy is 70.9mpg (15.6mpl) worst is 55.18mpg (12.14mpl) i always look at filling up at around 180miles.

I normally get mid to high 70's mpg from my AL7 - delighted with it all round. Don't know why testers always say MT-07 is a wheely machine and feels more powerful than the AL7 when the 0 - 60, standing 1/4 and 0 -100 tell a different story.

Higher centre of gravity?

Higher centre of gravity?
yeah, I think because of 90deg V twin the Suzuki is a longer bike as well as having lower CofG

I drop into,"Willy Woods" from time to time.Love the roads in Lincolnshire.I'm across the Bridge in Hull.Biker heaven where we are, innit :smt118
Love going over and around the,"Wolds" and love going to Cleethorpes for a bag of chips with scraps and then back down to Willy woods. Some lovely tarmac and twisties.
I'm getting around 58 Mpg on my Nekked 1999 but with some spirited riding.I'm still happy with that as it's as good if not better than my old CX500s but way more power and speed when required.
Rider weight plays a big part in performance and or MPG.I've been on an exercise/light diet kick since August last year and dropped to around 12 stone(5'10" height) now.My SV is super nippy and the suspension is excellent for me :D
I get about 28mpg from my SV1000 if that helps :)

Read all of the above with interest! I too am quite a slow rider and have achieved 80mpg on my K6 when I first got it. This was on a long journey at a constant 60mph when I had returned to bikes after 25 years away from them. I used to reckon on about 55mpg normally and a bit less for the K1.
Not used either much this year but took the K6 out for a spin yesterday and was instantly reminded of why I will never sell it. A fantastic all round bike that makes me smile and does everything I ask.
Time to give it a good clean and fit the new fairing, chain & sprockets, exhaust hanger etc that I have been collecting. Also time maybe to think about streetfightering the K1. Saw a really nice Cagiva Raptor last week, always liked the look.

Really as above, had my L7 just over a year and have put over 10,000 miles on it. General use mid 70's mpg. The more I ride it the more impressed I am with it. In nearly 50 years of biking it has now become the bike I have owned for the longest time regardless of price or capacity and while I continue to "tyre kick" (force of habit) I have no intention of changing it any time soon. All round package and value, for me can't be touched.

Got a brand spanking new 17 plate red AL7 on 1st March, fuel consumption over 2500 miles covered so far varies around 60-80 depending how I ride it.
Usually its around 67ish mpg but the best I've seen so far was 84mpg
I paid £4995 for mine which places it firmly in the absolutely unbelievable bargain category imo.
