i got some new gen LED bulbs to see what they were like. not tried them at night yet but they do look better and a bit brighter.

they are completely retro fit and take about 10min to do, top it off they are silly cheep. only negative is that the fans are loud and sounds like the rad fan is constantly on :(

difference between OEM and LED:
dip beam

full beam

swapped them with someone on here, they were not that good TBH. the best ever ones i had were from hids4u 50w 5000k which were like blooody daylight but a PITA and shizz beam pattern.

BTW interesting thing about the LED's is that the low and high beams are on at the same time when switched to high beam.

Hmm it'll be interesting to see some night pictures showing the different beams and brightness. I just don't have any faith in cheap LED's. They never seem to last

Not that good in what way?

throw of light. it was scary going to Applecross a few years back in the pitch black. dip beam was not even that good, light beam pattern was great though. the 50w 5000k hids were like riding in daylight. i got a set of retro fit 50w hids tha re supposed to be 5000k but they wernt they were too blue and not that good either.

if the led's dont work out then i'm going back to the 50w hids.

I want to get rid of the horrible yellow dip/main beam too, considered the night racer or what ever they are called.

Bibs what are your led sidelights? I got some but they don't have a bulb type end and almost touch the inside of the headlight. Basically mine look ugly

led side lights are just the cheep'n'nasty bag of 10 for a few £. they are that price as they dont last long and half the ones in the bag are dud, but hey they are cheep and fit.

if you want good side lights get creed.

problem with the high powered incandescent lamps is they dont last long and a lot are chavvy blue in colour.

You need to do the standard bulb too! Also see what the output is like at distance :)

i can tell you that the standard bulb on same wall was dull off white and about 1/3 of the brightness. i'm pretty impressed so far.

Does the bulbs heat sink rse stick out past the headlight assembly oe cover.

Hey Bibio, the problem as I see it and why I went for the Philips Extremes was that the LEDS use little power so the R/R runs hotter all the time...?

when the weather is better

they split in two with a twist and lock. you remove the shield and install that then fit the rubber as you would a normal bulb then insert the main unit. yes they do stick out a fair bit so if space is tight then dont bother.

top tip, you can fit these upside down by mistake. you want the two led's to form a pyramid upwards when installing them in the headlight.

i think both bulbs are 60w rated not 'equivalent' rated. having said that i would guess that each led cob is 20w so dip uses 40w. add in the electronics+fan loss and its probably about the same.
