Morning Org,

Have any of you ever had the main zip replaced on your leather jacket?
If so where did you get it done? The local seamstress, or a specific specialist.

And more importantly did it last?

My Furygan leather jacket is starting to play up. The zip looks fine no missing teeth etc. however doesn't always stay closed as you pull it up.
I have resorted to slightly squeezing the zip part with a pair of pliers and it has helped, however don't fancy trying it again as I'm bound to crack the casting.

Really can't afford another £350.00 to replace it. However a lightweight textile would be ideal in this heat!

I got the jacket to trouser zip replaced at a bike leathers specialist near me. I have also had repairs done via post on my Halvarsson stuff, I found them through Halvarsson and the repair was pretty inexpensive.

Furygan say they will do repairs for you at their factory so may be worth pricing up.

I've used these folks for goretex repairs:

They have a mail order service.

I've always used Hill4Leather (http://www.hill4leather.com/) for leather repairs, did a good job on my trouser main zip which lasted. Pretty sure you can post to them and plenty of people on here have used and recommended them.

There is a Timpson in Saffron Walden and the guy in there does some leather and zip repairs so if you are in that area it may be worth asking them.

Did it myself, by hand... The pain and the horror!

Jayne, I replaced the zip on both of my old boots - that was a mare.
I have also attached several jacket zip adapters to trousers.
All by hand, not sure I'm brave enough - fool hardy - to take on the main zip.
Looks a bit out of my (lack of) skill set. Well done you for taking it on!

I asked Hideout for a rough price - via their website - so far sod all reply.

I stupidly offered to repair my partners bike boots because a velcro zip cover came unstitched after it was caught on something. I could not touch anything else for days after and that was even with using a thimble! Never, ever again.

It all had to be by hand though, my cheap Chinese no brand Sowing Machine could not punch through the leather. The motor stalled! :laughat:
