So I had a petrol leak from below my carbs.. took it to garage, they stripped, cleaned carbs, replaced some bits..
Before bringing it in i noticed what looked like oil at the base of the front cylinder head.. the garage didn't investigate this, but saud they would spray clean the engine to make any leak from the carbs evident?.
Anyway picked up the bike.. the engine, which is black, has discoloured in areas to white?.. has the black paint been taken off?.. if not, how do i get it back to bkack?
Back to the oil leak.. what might be leaking at the base of the cylinder head?, I don't think it's something dripping from above

The leak is where the engine is shiny.. pictures arent very clear.

Looks like normal salt corrosion. Black paint flakes off between the cylinders.
The breather hoses from the airbox exit around that area too.
Better photos would help, but doesn't look like anything serious. I'll do one of my sv in a minute

The discolouration has occurred after washing, so no salt involved as far as I'm aware

Perhaps the wash has exposed the corrosion sitting under the black paint. so long as your bike has been ridden on UK roads in the winter, it will have been exposed to salt.
Oil leaks don't come from the carbs, except for a bit of blow back into the airbox, but we're talking minute amounts

Or its residue from a degrading agent the garage used?
Is the oil level correct?

I just had a thought, maybe its from petrol that came out when the carbs were removed?.. petrol stains are white aren't they?

Could be
So long as it isn't a pool of petrol and likely to burst into flames I wouldn't fret.
Carb overflows should deal with anything like this

No i mean i think the petrol has caused the discolouration.. the leak is definitely oil
oil leeks are a burger to trace as the stuff creeps. dust the effected area with talcum powder which will show up where its being effected.
i cant see too clearly but i would suspect its the camchain tensioner seal. or crank case breather spigot to hose is a bit perished.
